Fun fact French Friday

French cuisine is recognized by UNESCO as an intangible Cultural Heritage , and Father’s Day in France is celebrated with the festive meal . La Fete des Peres

L’Auberge Special for Father’s Day is a steak sandwich featuring Enright Beef. Enright Cattle Company is a fourth generation farm in Tweed raising premium quality beef for fine dining ; they harvest only five animals a week to focus on sustainability and quality.

Chef is also creating his strawberry tarts with berries from Lakeshore Farm in Wellington ; the tarts sell out quickly ; so come early and I will see you on the patio.

Fun Fact French Friday,

Tourtiere is a Quebec dish with ties to France and the shallow pans for cooking and serving tourtes {pies}

It is a traditional feast served by the Quebecois after midnight mass on Christmas Eve,

I like to think that this dish comes from "fourte" which means pigeon, Passenger Pigeons were used in tourtiere until early 1900's when they were hunted into extinction,

Chef Jean Marc's tourtiere is based on the recipe of the Lac-Saint-Jean region where the meat is cubed instead of minced, slow cooked and is a mixture of pork, beef and chicken, potatoes, carrots, onions, aromatic herb, salt and pepper. We don't need to wait for Christmas ; L'auberge has tourtiere in the frozen food section for you to savour year round.
