Guess who’s back?!

Just kidding! 😝 But when Tom from FiveQ was looking for some help getting started with Whole Hog competition, I couldn’t resist getting the trailer out for one more time. And getting a 1st place on the blind box is always the greatest reward a cook can ask for 🙏🏻

Thanks to everyone that was in Ijmuiden (NL) and the perfect weather, this was a great weekend!

TO ALL OUR BBQ FRIENDS;

We've been somewhat on the quiet side lately (I know, weird if you know us a bit 😂). With this update, we want to make you aware that we're taking this break a little more seriously and longer than originally intended.

We truly, truly love the entire KCBS/SCA traveling circus and the barbecuing community at large. We've come a long way since our first comp in Hasselt in 2016 and we made a whole lot of friends along the way and across the globe. Thank you for this, from all of us!

But both personal and professional reasons, very much outside of barbecuing, make it just too hard to continue properly. Next time you see us will be as visitors.

This is not going to be a happy update ... Yesterday at the first Meetjesland International BBQ Contest we dropped the ball on all 4 categories, ending up dead LAST of all teams. After a streak of increasing growth over the last competitions with calls, walks, and top10 places we may have gotten greedy and pushed too far.

On day 1 we did manage to cook a great (literally ... 46kgs/101lbs) hog to only be beaten at the finish line with 0.40pts difference by Wettels On Fire. Big congrats, my friends! Well deserved.

Yet we still have many things to be truly grateful for! The weather, the amazing organization (OMG, that breakfast!!!), playing outside with our friends for 2,5 days, ...

So thx to Fiveq Barbequeteam & elkedag-bbq.be for organizing this new SCA/KCBS event, thx to Southern Dutch BBQ for the continuous support on and off the field, and especially thx to Stijn Dhondt, my partner in crime, for keeping up with all my shenanigans.

We left Springbreak with a full heart. After the ridiculously great results as Grand Champion Whole Hog on day one, we confirmed our streak with an overall 10th place including a 5th place in an international field of 31 teams.

The fact that we are growing more consistently as a team has everything to do with senior winning teams that are increasing the level playing field by continuously sharing their experiences.

In any type of competition it doesn’t matter how many players there are. In order to become the first, you gotta beat the second. Southern Dutch BBQ makes the competition for themselves harder by creating new 2nds. TAKE THEIR CLASS. Big respect and thx!!!

Oh my … what a great start of this awesome BBQ weekend at Lommel. We took 1st place whole hog onsite judging, AND 1st place blind box judging, good for overall Grand Champion.

Thank you Carmans E&L N.V. for the great piggy, and Southern Dutch BBQ for helping us build a great flavour profile based on their rubs!

This weekend we joined a Southern Dutch BBQ cooking class for the 2nd time. The level of knowledge sharing you get from Dorine & Tom is incredible.

No, I’m not sharing any actual class pictures 🤪 You’ll have to join them next time around. But I do want to thank Tom from the new KCBS team Barbecoa for the ride and Melvin and Jeanette for the great hospitality as always, the exceptional meals and of course the many little chats, beers and ‘tastings’.

See you all on the field in 2 weeks!!
