Today, we had one of the most impressive and emotional experiences of our journey😔 visiting the battlefields and memorials of El Alamein, where one of the defining battles of the Second World War was fought.
Walking through this land, knowing what happened here more than 80 years ago, is difficult to put into words.
From Churchill to Rommel, from Mussolini to Hitler… names that became part of history. But behind those famous names were thousands upon thousands of ordinary young men, sons, brothers, husbands and fathers, who never returned home 🥀
So many lives lost. So many families left behind, carrying the pain of a war that changed the world forever.
We first visited the Italian War Memorial, followed by the resting places of the British and Commonwealth soldiers. Standing among the graves, seeing the endless rows of names and realizing how young so many of them were… it leaves you with a lump in your throat 😢
Today was not about winners or losers.
It was about remembering the human cost of war.
Our thoughts are with every soul who lost their life at El Alamein, regardless of which uniform they wore.
May they never be forgotten. 🕊️
