The burger is short for a hamburger. It’s a fast-food sandwich.
That is a ground beef patty, grilled, between a split seeded hamburger bun, often optionally also layered with lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, and a variety of sauces such as mayonnaise, mustard, or ketchup. It is also possible to put lots of other accoutrements in it such as Cheese and bacon being the most popular, but also avocado, grilled onions, mushrooms, and other dressings (various BBQ, A1 steak sauce, and lots of secret sauce recipes, mostly Russian dressing like mixes).
In particular, if it has a cheese slice melted on it then it is called a cheeseburger. If it has two or more patties for more meat content then it is called a double or triple burger.
Beef is by far and away from the main patty meat, although places do offer turkey burgers, buffalo burgers, and veggie burger substitutes.
