Junk food accessibility in schools has enormously expanded the rates of Childhood obesity. It has been discovered that in stomach, there are various microbial species exhibit that help the body cells to battle against obesity, diabetes, provocative gut conditions, coronary illness, and so on. Junk food executes these microbial species prompting expanded level of occurrence of overweight.

Junk food is a pejorative term for food containing high levels of calories from sugar or fat with little protein, vitamins or minerals. Use of the term implies that a particular food has little "nutritional value" and contains excessive fat, sugar, salt, and calories.Junk food can also refer to high protein food containing large amounts of meat prepared with, for example, too much unhealthy saturated fat;[citation needed] many hamburger outlets, fried chicken outlets and the like supply food considered junk food.

Foods commonly considered junk foods include salted snack foods, gum, candy, sweet desserts, fried fast food, and sugary carbonated beverages. Many foods such as hamburgers, pizza, and tacos can be considered either healthy or junk food depending on their ingredients and preparation methods.

The junk food market becomes larger and larger every day. "Stop eating junk food!" they say; easier said than done when the food industry spends over $33 billion per year in the US alone to advertise food products that could be classified as junk food. Another alarming fact is that the average person today consumes more added sugar in two weeks than a person a century ago would have eaten in a whole year. All of this added sugar comes from junk food, including soft drinks, sweetened cereals, candy, processed snacks and fast foods. This list will give you the top 5 junk foods and ideas for their replacements. You can stop eating junk food... or at least cut back!

1) Pizza

Frozen or fresh from Domino's, pizza contains hundreds of empty calories, mostly coming from the abundance of cheese. It has a high fat and cholesterol content, which is never good for anyone especially those with heart conditions. Eating just one small piece won't do any harm; however, serving sizes of pizza have gone up in the past few years. We are consuming much more than we need to. Pizza is also extremely high in sodium. Just two slices of frozen DiGiorno pepperoni pizza contains 2,020 mg of sodium. This is almost more than people need in an entire day!

What to replace it with:

When eating out, use portion control. Aim to eat only one or two pieces. Instead of ordering supreme pizza, get a veggie pizza. You can also buy items at the grocery store to make your own nutritious pizza at home.

2) Soft Drinks

Soda and other sugary drinks add sugar and calories to your diet without providing much, if any, nutrition. Excessively consuming soft drinks can lead to obesity, which can lead to type 2 diabetes, asthma, sleep apnea, and high blood pressure. These problems are becoming significantly apparent in children. It is also known that regular soda drinkers don't drink enough water, which can take a toll on good health.

What to replace it with:

Water! It may be difficult if you're an avid soda drinker, but replacing soda with water is one of the best things you can do for your diet. You can also try flavored carbonated water and natural fruit juices.

3) Candies

These are along the most easily available but most sinful junk food items. For starters, candies are nothing but a concentrated form of sugar. The high sucrose or fructose content ensures that you immediately get a sugar spike. Candy can cause stomach problems if consumed in large amounts-which isn't hard to do!

What to replace it with:

If you're craving something sweet, reach for fruit or nuts. Stock your fridge with apples, grapes, berries, bananas, walnuts, almonds and pecans. If this doesn't fully satisfy your sweet tooth, eat just a few candies. You can also try drinking a glass of water or going for a walk to get your mind off of sugar.

4) Sugary Cereals

Most people are surprised to see 'cereal' on what-not-to-eat lists. This is because many of them are advertised as healthy breakfast cereals. However, cereals including Fruit Loops and Reese's Puffs have high added sugar content. This can contribute to sugar cravings during the daytime, causing you to eat more.

What to replace it with:

Buy a healthier cereal, of course! Make sure to compare food labels to determine which has the least amount of added sugar. You can add your own fruit to an unsweetened, whole grain cereal which will make it taste just as good. Whole grain oatmeal is another healthy alternative.

5) Potato Chips

Chips are a major culprit to weight gain in America. Their tastiness and appealing texture make it hard to follow the serving size, hence the reason some people eat the entire bag. Potato chips contain high amounts of fat, empty calories and sodium.

What to replace it with:

If you're craving chips, reach for a healthier snack like pretzels instead. Stock your cupboards with convenient, nutritious snacks like nuts, whole grain granola bars, fruit, etc...Keep chips out of the house or out of sight/reach. If you absolutely must have chips, control your portion size. Don't eat directly out of the bag; size your portion before you start eating.

It has always confused me how people who struggle to lose weight won't stop eating junk food. One thing in particular that I've noticed, is most of the people who have told me they were trying to lose weight, usually have their cupboards stuffed with junk food instead of all-natural foods.

Why is this the case? Usually they're just not willing to give up their favorite foods because it lets them, "enjoy life" a little, when what they should be thinking about is eating to enjoy a longer life.

Eating junk food doesn't have anything to do with enjoying your life. When you stop eating so much junk food then you really enjoy life because you have more energy and feel better on a regular basis. Not only will you get in better shape by dropping the junk food, but you will also feel better about your looks which will lead to more confidence and even more enjoyment.

A lot of people don't realize that you don't have to eat boring and tasteless food to eat healthy. Once you learn to enjoy more natural foods and all the types available, you realize you enjoy them more than overly processed junk with too much salt and sugar.

I'm a firm believer that everyone should enjoy what they eat. However, you can accomplish that without all the unhealthy, processed food. Some people are shocked to learn there are healthy alternatives for most of the junk they eat.

Some examples of those are:

Unhealthy junk: Deep fried chicken strips and French fries on the side

Healthy substitute: Grilled chicken strips with steamed veggies on the side

Unhealthy junk: fast food style cheeseburger on a heavily processed bun

Healthy substitute: Grass-fed hamburger, which is higher in omega 3 fats, and grass-fed cheese on a grain roll.

Unhealthy junk: a chocolate donut or a chocolate candy bar

Healthy substitute: A few pieces of extra-dark chocolate which has more fiber and a ton less sugar than regular milk chocolate.

See how you can eat healthy foods, but still get lots of flavor?

If you only get one thing from this article, it should be that eating healthy doesn't have to mean eating nasty, bland foods. You can eat healthy and still "enjoy life" as some like to say. You should take the time to discover the flavors nature intended, and avoid as much processed food as you can!

Only a few days ago, I learned that July 21 is National Junk Food Day. Really. Did you even know there was one?

Research revealed a disappointing body of information. Neither the creator nor the origin of National Junk Food Day is known. The day is "dedicated" to the snacks "everyone loves." Those foods are, by definition, high in fats, sugars, salt and calories, with little or no nutritional value.

Celebrating National Junk Food Day involves consuming your favorite guilty pleasures. And, of course, posting on social media using . (Yawn.) Yes, I'm old, but really?

Believe it or not, several Junk Food Day websites exist. One explained the day as a reaction to the unappealing routine of "being healthy, preparing a balanced meal, and snacking on carrot sticks." The Junk Food celebration satisfies cravings for something "naughtier, greasier" and more fattening than the unexciting meal you know you should eat instead.

How To Minimize the Damage

Another website suggested taking a walk or doing yard work to burn off the extra calories. As if it's only about calories.

My field is psychoactive nutrition, so I think about what a day of junk food can do to the brain: the food hangover that gives you brain fog and makes you feel as if you've been run over by a truck, for instance.

Or the cravings that will occur for up to a week and make it difficult to get back on track.

Or the results that never happen. I'm currently working with a client who, per her doctor's instructions, is on a food plan that doesn't permit starches. But she takes 2 days off every week and isn't losing weight. Yard work won't change that; she's a runner. My theory is her 5 "on" days are probably just detoxing her from the 2 days of damage.

Why Must Days Off Be an Accident?

A woman in the weight-loss program I ran for many years actually complained that I never got sick.

She wasn't envious of my good health. She told me how nice it would be to come in for the day's training - and find I wasn't there because I was out sick.

Okay, first: Why not work out on your own if the instructor's sick, instead of leaving the gym? The gym equipment still functions when the instructor's out. So... really?

Second: Gee, thanks for wishing sickness upon me. What unpleasantries may I wish upon you? Yikes.

Days Off can take place anytime and for any reason. If you want one, don't go to the gym. Ah, but that means taking responsibility.

Apparently, It's About Lack Of Guilt

It seems the idea of Nat'l Junk Food Day is to eat those favorite junk foods - just that day - without guilt.

Many years ago, I was a fitness instructor for a one-week, residential seminar on weight loss. The other fitness instructor and I had no control over the nutrition guidelines, the seminar format - or the announcement of a Day Off at the mid-week mark.

I objected. Why did we need a day off in a one-week program? Why were we teaching people who were just getting started to take a day off every week? Did anyone besides me see the self-sabotage flaw in that plan? Had anyone besides me ever dealt with nutrition clients who couldn't lose weight due to a weekly day off that turned into a free-for-a

According to the definition, any food item that has low nutritive value as per the Food Standards Academy and deemed unhealthy by the non-eaters is termed as Junk Food. The term was coined by the Center for Science director, Michael Jacobson, in 1972. Since then, the term has been commonly used.

Basically, the most common components of "junk food" are fats, sugars and all things that make you fat and do not contain proteins or vitamins or fibers for that matter, so here label reading is definitely a must. I get a real kick when the promoters in the supermarkets go 'disappeared' whenever they see me reading the labels.

Then why is junk food so popular and why are there rows and rows of them in the supermarkets? Even sometimes I couldn't resist it, what with all those eye-catching packaging....so do watch out for the so-called 'good buys'. Its a deafening no-no of course!

#1. The taste is impeccable, as nothing beats it. Although, the non-junk-food is nutritive but it may necessarily not stir your sense of taste however, the "junk food" is bound to instigate euphoria.

#2. The price is compatible with the pocket money for most of the kids and the teenagers who frequent the joints and it also is a great buy to makeup for the shortage of time.

#3. The ease at which it is available. Wherever you go, whenever you go, you are bound to find a place that caters to your taste for the junk food and where you can eat all the junk food that you want.

#4. It is easy to produce and is a cheap investment for the producers and the investors. It also turns out to be a great investment for it has a long shelf life and in some cases may not even require refrigeration and the taste and the variety further strengthen the motion.

Ok, now for the cons...

#1. Although, the taste is impeccable and does stir the senses of taste a great deal, but the feeling of euphoria comes at a great price. The person pays, besides the money, in terms for their precious health.

#2. The health hazards related to junk food are diabetes milletus (Type 2 diabetes), obesity, dental cavities, and the most dangerous, heart diseases like high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis and many more.

#3. The major reason behind the hazards is the ingredients, the same ingredients gives the junk food their delicious yummy taste.

#4. One must keep in mind that there is nothing called as a free lunch and nothing, absolutely nothing, called as the perfect and healthy junk food.

Well, from today lets start to learn how to read the labels and make it a criteria as a consumer. Next, be always mindful of what we feed our body with. We should always make it a challenge to stay as healthy as possible....for medical bills are more expensive than junk food.

Ever start eating ice-cream and couldn't stop? Ever start eating potato chips and ended up eating half of the family size bag? Ever start eating slices of pizza and ended up eating half of a large pizza?

If you have then you have asked yourself how to stop eating. Whether you want to stop eating junk food, or stop eating fast foods these steps will help you.

Understand Why We Eat Junk Foods. Junk foods, processed foods are manufactured to taste so good in your mouth. They often satisfies your taste buds instantly. So even through they aren't good for you in the long term, when you do consume them they satisfy you instantly.
Instant Gratification vs Long Term Gratification. To stop eating junk foods you need to differentiate between instant gratification and long term gratification. Eating a junk food or a fast food is instantly gratifying. However how do you feel 2-3 hours later? Usually a little tired, lazy, out of energy etc. What happens if you keep eating those kinds of foods? You will slowly gain weight, deteriorate your body, and lower the quality of your life.
Dieting vs Healthy Eating Habits. Going on a diet and cutting out all junk foods from your diet immediately will not help you improve your eating habits. It will only make you crave junk foods even more. One day, in a moment of weakness, you will crash and eat every unhealthy processed food in sight, or in other words have a binge eating episode. You should rather aim for building life long healthy eating habits. Building a habit requires gradual slow change. Maybe cut out one junk food from your diet every couple of weeks. This will help you improve your eating habits in an easy natural manner.
Buy Junk Foods in Small Portion Sizes. Instead of buying a huge bag of potato chips, buy the single serving individual sized one. This will help you stay strong in moments of weakness where you feel like binge eating on unhealthy processed foods.
Don't Eat For Comfort. Often junk foods and fast foods are comfort foods. Comfort foods is what we try to eat to deal with tough emotions like stress, fear, worry, sadness, bore dome etc. Catch yourself when you are about to reach for comfort foods. Pause and question your emotional state. What events or emotions in your life lead to your cravings for comfort foods?

Do you like to eat junk food? If you are like me, then you like them very much. Most of them are very tasty and it is really hard to resist them. They are found almost everywhere. But eating excessive junk foods is a food habit that you should really get rid of as early as possible. Why? Before knowing why you should avoid them you should understand what foods can be classified as junk foods.

What are Junk foods?

The foods which have little or no nutrient value can be classified as junk foods. These foods contain very low amount of vitamin, mineral and protein but high amount of calories from fat or sugar. Generally they are highly processed and contain higher amount of fat, sugar, salt and lower amount of fiber. Some of them also contain preservatives and artificial colors. Some popular and well known junk foods are: fast foods, potato crisps, french fries, sauces, salted snacks, chips, very sweet dessert items and carbonated beverage items.

Some Junk Food Facts

You need to know some facts to understand whether these kinds of foods are good or bad for us. Without giving you some facts it would not be easy for me to make you understand the effects of eating these kinds of foods. Now, let's know some facts about junk foods.

1. Artificial colors and preservatives: Many junk foods contain artificial color and preservatives which do no good for our body, rather they act like poison. Sweden's National Food Administration is a government food safety agency. With their cooperation a research was carried out at Stockholm University. The research showed that baking or frying carbohydrate-rich foods, such as potatoes or cereals, formed acrylamide. International Agency for Research on Cancer, found that acrylamide induces gene mutations. It is also known to cause damage to the central and peripheral nervous system.

2. Lower amount of nutrients: Most of the junk foods have very low nutritional ingredients like protein, vitamin and minerals rather they contain higher amount of fats, sugar, salt. They are also very low in fiber.By eating too much junk food we are giving our body only carbohydrate and depriving it from the other nutrients. Therefore, in return our body will also deprive us from a healthy physical condition.

3. Higher potential of suffering from health problems: If you are habituated to eat junk foods almost everyday or very regularly you are sure to be an overweight or obese person unless you do a good amount of physical work everyday. There is absolutely no doubt about that. This overweight or obesity will lead you to some serious health problems like heart diseases, joint problems, high blood pressure, type-2 diabetes. Besides those serious problems they are also responsible for faster tooth decay, constipation, problems related to digestion and tiredness.

4. Junk foods are a real threat for the children and younger age groups: If your children eat too much junk foods, then you should really control their food habit. Because if they eat too much junk food they will eat fewer amount of nutrient foods. This in turn will not ensure proper nutrition for their proper growth and they will suffer from tooth decay, loose bones and gaining overweight in earlier ages of their lives. Junk foods contribute lack of enthusiasm, headaches, tummy aches and poor concentrations to children

In context of the above mentioned facts I think I will be safe to say that, junk foods are bad for our health. My dear friends, I know it will be hard for many people to eliminate junk foods from the daily food list. For our busy daily routines many of us have become so much dependent on them that they would not try to think about not eating these foods. Most of them are easily available and easy to carry. But, considering the side effects you should at least take some fewer amounts of them from now on. Junk foods act like slow poison in our body. It is hard for you to feel the negative effects of junk foods overnight. But, if they are in your food list almost everyday or very regularly then you will definitely observe some negative effects on your body. Only the time to observe the effects may vary from person to person. Therefore it is up to you to make the choice. I hope you will do the best for your body.
