Dear Community,
It is with a heavy heart that we write this to let you know that Mare Bello Pizza will be closing its doors.
This has not been a decision made lightly. Over the past three years, we have poured everything into this business — not just as owners, but as members of this community. In that time, we’ve been proud to employ 51 local people, including supporting a couple of chef apprentices, and to create a place that brought people together.
However, the past period has brought a series of challenges that have become too difficult to overcome. A downturn in people dining out, the ongoing drought, the impact of the algal bloom in our region, and rising fuel costs have all taken their toll. At the same time, we have faced significant increases in food and supplier costs, rent, electricity, gas and other government compliance costs. We have done our best to absorb these pressures — working hard to maintain the quality of our product while keeping price increases to a minimum — but unfortunately, this has no longer been sustainable.
This closure affects not just us, but a number of local people, a lot of them juniors who will now be seeking employment. It’s a reminder of how important it is to support small, family-run businesses — the mum and dad operators who are doing it tough and who form the backbone of our community.
We are incredibly grateful for the support, loyalty, and kindness we have received from all of you. It has meant more than words can express.
We will continue trading Wednesday through Sunday from 4pm to 8pm, with our final night of service on April 26th.
We would love to see as many of you as possible before we close our doors.
Thank you to our staff. We have been so blessed to have worked with you. The meals we produce and the service we provide is a credit to each of you. The hardest part of this whole thing is feeling we have let you down.
Thank you for being part of our journey. We wish everyone in our community strength and all the very best for the future.
Sean and Bel and the whole Mare Bello family.
