Local news can move pretty quickly, and let’s be honest, most of us are just trying to keep up between work, school runs, errands and whatever else the week throws at us.

So we’ve pulled together the Illawarra updates making headlines this week into one handy, bite-sized read.

Council cadet, apprentice and trainee roles are open for 2027, plans are moving ahead for the Wollongong City Centre skatepark and MacCabe Park expansion, Bulli and Sublime Point lookout cafés could be getting a new chapter, and there are plenty more local updates across the region.

Okay, we'll admit it, we've got a bit of a thing for Berry. This little South Coast charmer packs a serious punch, and we've rounded up exactly how to make the most of it.

By day, it's all sourdough, salt air and slow browsing. Then the sun goes down, and Berry cranks the volume. That's thanks to A Day Well Spent, Berry's roving live music series where gigs spill out across the town's pubs, bars and venues, everything from Reggae and Roots to Jazz, Indie and Funk. Just a heads up, it only runs on certain weekends, so have a squiz at the dates before you rock up.

We've done the hard yakka so you don't have to. Full guide's in the link, go on, we'll see you in Berry.

A holiday escape or a day off exploring, Shellharbour is a charming spot to spend some time.

We love how much is packed into this coastal corner. Beautiful beaches, ocean pools, calm waterways, scenic walks, rainforest adventures and local spots to eat and drink all come together to make Shellharbour such a great place to spend the day.

Spend the morning by the water, head out on a trail, try your hand at fishing, take in the views or settle in somewhere for a good meal. Days here can be as slow-paced or active as you like! The mix of coastline, outdoor adventures and local favourites is what makes Shellharbour such a special part of the Illawarra.

A walk with a pretty big reward at the end… or more accurately, the entire way along. 👀

The Sea Cliff Bridge Walk is one of those Illawarra spots that locals and visitors never seem to get tired of.

This easy coastal stroll is a winner for families, grandparents, prams and little legs that aren’t always keen on a big adventure. It’s mostly flat, dogs are welcome on lead, and it’s simple enough to enjoy without needing to plan a full day around it.

Best part is the view, of course. The bridge curves along the coastline with ocean views that make it very easy to stop, look around and appreciate just how lucky we are to have this on our doorstep.

And if you’re walking during whale season, keep an eye out… you might be lucky enough to spot one cruising past!

We’ve put together everything you need to know before you go, including how long it takes, getting there, what to look out for and a few handy tips to make the most of your walk.

Lace up the shoes, grab your camera, and explore one of the Illawarra’s most scenic strolls.

How good is it when you can learn something new about a place you think you already know? 👀

Shapes History is your guide to women’s history, bringing the stories of remarkable women back into the spotlight and showing how they helped shape the places around us.

It’s such a great way to spend a weekend morning, seeing familiar places a little differently, hearing some fascinating stories, and having a few moments that would make you go “wait, I never knew that!”

Plus, they also run private tours in Wollongong, making it a great option for groups wanting to explore the city together.

WHAT’S ON // A few drinks, a few mates and a very good reason to laugh on a Thursday night? Yes please.

Fillmore’s Comedy Night is back at Fillmore’s Kiama on the last Thursday of the month, bringing a fresh lineup of comedians down from Sydney for a proper night of live comedy.

This month, Kabba from Newcastle Comedy Club, Tim Renkema from Sydney Comedy Festival and Tavis Harrod from Sydney Fringe Fest are taking the mic, so safe to say the laughs are looking very well covered.

Doors open at 6pm, with comedy kicking off at 8pm, which gives you plenty of time to settle in, grab a drink and get comfy before the fun starts.

A very easy one to round up the crew for, we reckon.
