And that's a wrap!! (warning - long appreciation post).
"I think I just found us a restaurant to buy" π
This is how our journey started. We took over Fish on the Edge, with no experience, and no idea what the next 10 years would look like. Then we decided to buy Delish next door. The second shop 'just goes along for the ride....' someone assured us π
Holy Moly ... what a journey!! Nearly 10 years (& over 40 tonne of fish!!) later, more than 100 staff, so many amazing people have crossed our paths.
This ride has been incredible to say the least. Fun, exhausting, hard, exhilarating, stressful, rewarding ... and everything in between. We grew our business, survived covid, smashed out incredible Christmas and Easter weeks, moved houses too many times to count, saw 3 children leave the nest, had some amazing holidays, made sacrifices, battled some tough life events, farewelled two beautiful dogs, and sadly endured the loss of loved family members along the wayπ In business, through the ups and the downs, the doors stay open, you keep going, and still give your best to your staff and customers.
The rewards we gained through this journey were different than we anticipated. Nope, you certainly don't leave rich, wealthy and able to retire (sadly lol). But the experiences, the lessons we've learned, and the friends we've gained along the way ... are for life. The satisfaction of developing people (especially young ones) is so rewarding. Seeing them start as young as 13, often staying in their first job for many years, navigating school, then Uni, then moving onto the 'real world', has been so fulfilling. We love that we've had an impact on their young lives, and hope they remember their first jobs, for all the right reasons.
Thanks to all our suppliers and reps!! You've helped us so much along the way, and we've had many laughs π
We sincerely thank all our staff (even the tricky ones who helped us develop a thicker skin!! π¬); you have all been amazing. And especially to the team we are handing over today; you have certainly ridden the roller-coaster with us over this last year. Thankyou for your resilience, your loyalty, and for putting up with us at the pointy end. We wish nothing but the very best for each and every one of you β€οΈ. We know you'll continue to look after our customers beautifully π
To our families: Lucas, Christo & Josie for being part of our original crew πͺ, and putting up with us as your bosses π¬. Colleen for being our tea-towel washer in the early days, and our most loyal scallop eater lol π. Enid and Brian for their endless support, providing 'base camp' for us and our belongings, while we were in between homes/cities, and for absolutely everything else you do for us (& Roxy π); we love and appreciate you both beyond words π₯°. And to Phil, our 'business adviser' for giving us the confidence to do this gig. We are indebted to you for your knowledge, expertise, advice and countless hours 'managing' us π.
Lastly, to all of you!! The thousands of amazing loyal customers who have supported us through thick and thin. No small business would ever survive without you. We are so grateful to you all, and it's been an absolute privilege serving you for the past decade. Thank you from the bottom of hearts π
Love & appreciation,
Helen and Narelle π
