Not sure how you’re gonna stay warm this winter?

Drink more coffee of course.

Why? Here’s the low down:

First, there is the simple heat of the drink itself. A warm cup in your hands and hot liquid in your stomach literally raise the temperature of your mouth and core for a short time, which makes you feel cosy and comfortable.

Then there is the caffeine. Caffeine gently stimulates your nervous system and can increase your metabolic rate a little, which means your body burns a bit more energy and produces a bit more heat. That is why you often feel more awake, alert and “switched on” after a cup.

There is also the ritual effect. Sitting down with a coffee, pausing between sips and breathing in the aroma tells your brain you are safe and settled, which can help you relax and feel emotionally warmer and more grounded, especially on cold days.

Put all of that together and a simple cup becomes a small daily warm up for both body and mood, not just a caffeine hit.
