So we haven’t posted in a while, as we have been too upset with what has happened to share anything, but NOW is the time...
We hope you can read AAALL the way to the bottom of this post, it’s a bit long, but it’s from the heart 😊 Plus, the best part is riiiight at the end!
Firstly we’re sorry for the absence. Life has been very tough for us lately (as it has for everyone) We have cried many tears in the last few months. Especially as we made the calls to explain the situation to our team. Collectively we closed three businesses & said goodbye to 23 staff, and it affected us very deeply. To say we have been devastated, and stressed is an understatement 😔
We want to say a massive THANK YOU to each & every one of our loyal supporters and customers. We have missed ALL of your smiling faces so much! Thank you for the hundreds of calls & messages of support throughout this time 🙏
So... why close? Couldn’t you have just kept those venues open & adapted to the changes? We hear you ask.
The biggest reason for us was logistics:
As most of you know, Lara owns The Sparrow’s Nest & Mr. Fox on William as well, and Kylie also has a full time job.
Sparrow’s, Dark Horse & Mr Fox, plus our newest venture, Boss Burgers Perth were all trading seven days a week. So, as you can imagine, it was just not physically possible to sustain all of these operations at the same time throughout the months of Covid.
We just couldn’t be everywhere at once. We couldn’t give the appropriate attention required to keep each business running at its best. And we ALWAYS want to do our best.
Please know, we never wanted to let anyone down. We’ve been so sad for our amazing team - a group of strong, intelligent & hard working individuals, who we would be nothing without!!
We’ve been upset for our fantastic, loyal customers who made us happy every day. You great big bunch of legends, of all ages, from all walks of life, have genuinely become like one giant family to us 🥰
Now, speaking of family - our amazing, talented head chef at Dark Horse, Wella... is pregnant. While this is great news, it also means we simply could not have put her in harms way throughout the uncertainty of Covid shutdown. Our sous chef Gail, moved to Karratha to be with family. Our amazing weekday barista superstar Morgan moved to Busselton to be with his family, and the lovely FOH legends Tracy & Bri spent their time concentrating on their Uni studies.
These were obviously the other reasons behind our tough decision to not operate throughout Covid.
Where’s the good part?! Well, we have some exciting news to share - the time for change has come. The saying “when one door closes another opens” is more than appropriate.
As some of you have guessed.... we are MOVING!! Our little Dark Horse is moving in with the Boss!! We will share the space. Cafe by day and Burger Bar by night!! 😍
There are so many positives to this for us, our business and our team. And we hope you, our Dark Horse family, will reap the benefits too! Think of all the possibilities.... We have been!!
So, give us a few weeks and we’ll be back. Starting Saturdays & Sundays in the beginning, and then hopefully progressing to weekdays too.
Thanks for your support everyone, and thanks for taking the time to read this post!! Please, please tag all of your fave brunch buddies to share the news! 😘
We wish you all health & happiness,
See you all soon,
Love
Kylie, Lara and your Dark Horse Crew!!
xx
