Something momentous seems to be happening in China.
There are confirmed reports of all commercial flights in or out of China being cancelled, an unusually strong military presence in Beijing, and complete Chinese media silence on what is going on. At least 10,000 flights have been affected, with flight tracking showing empty sky’s over China.
All occurring shortly after a minister was sentenced to death and two senior officials to life in prison as part of Xi Jinping’s efforts to secure a third term, and Xi Jinping has not been present for a number of public events he would normally attend, or seen in public since returning from the SEO talks; leading many to speculate a coup is in process and Xi Jinping is under house arrest.
We have seen this pattern many times before with coups so it is not impossible. But it is also possible something else is happening, and because of the Chinese media blackout there are currently no confirmed reports from any reliable sources about what is going on. The status of Xi Jinping’s grip on power, whether he is under house arrest or not as the target of a coup, or is the one engaging in a coup attempt, is all speculation at this point. We would probably see this same pattern if there was a zombie apocalypse with its epicentre in Beijing (not suggesting that is happening either)
Whatever has happened, we should find out in a matter of days, either through official Chinese state media or social media accounts posts.
