Tuross Head Fishing Club

Welcome to the Tuross Head Fishing Club The Tuross Head Fishing Club provides a relaxed environment to fish and socialise. And why not?

We welcome members of all ages and especially love to see our junior members wet a line! We measure our success on the happiness and satisfaction of our membership base... and we can't be doing too bad. We are the largest club (by membership) on the south coast and even boast active members from as far afield as Canberra and surrounds who travel hundreds of kilometres each month to participate in our monthly "Goblet Fish" competition. These competitions are always help in good spirit, with the typical banter and rivalry fishos love AND they are followed by a free Members BBQ with raffles and giveaways. It’s a great chance for everyone to get together and take advantage of all that Tuross Head fishing has to offer. Memberships are now available from reception at Tuross Head Country Club.

Our new competition season has started with perfect weather conditions over the weekend for fishing. But someone should have told the fish to turn up. Fishing outside was hard with only a few good size fish recorded. The lake on Sunday proved hard to find fish. Some blackfish were caught but the Flathead are still hiding. Beach fishing has not been great also.
I was still able to record 42 fish with 10 different species by 15 members.
September Goblet was a Non Goblet fish. The Goblet award went to David Backhouse catching a Nannygai 29.4cm worth 59.35pts. That's two years in a row now David.
Mens Outside winner went to Steve Affleck with a nice Snapper 61cm worth 133.23pts.
Women's Outside had no winner.
Mens Lake and Estuary was won by Colin Fletcher with a Blackfish 42.6cm worth 108.pts.
Women's Lake and Estuary winner was Linda Puglisi catching a Whiting 32cm worth 55.65pts.
Mens Rock and Beach had no winner.
Women's Rock and Beach also had no winner.
No Junior award was given.
Mystery Fish no. 1 Blackfish 35.5cm was won by Colin Fletcher catching the closest size Blackfish of 34.3cm.
Turkey of the Month was given to Merv Roberts you badly skinned his shin on the boat trailer.
Being on blood thinning medication doesn't help the bleeding. With a shoe full of blood Merv stood in the water only to attract a large Stingray. Did you look to see if a Shark was also attracted to you, Merv?
I have finalized the dates for our seasons calendar. I am having trouble sending an attachment to this email. Printed versions are available. I will send it out when my computer behaves itself.
Next month's Goblet competition dates are Oct. 9th-10th-11th. Goblet target fish will be PIGFISH.
Until then enjoy your fishing.

Rain fell on the last day of our fishing season, but members did manage a good day of fishing on Saturday. Conditions for outside fishing were fairly calm in the morning before the wind started to blow. The majority of the fish recorded were from fishing offshore. In all I recorded 37 fish for the competition by 12 members with 10 different species being caught.
Morwong was the target fish, with only a few being recorded. The August Goblet award went to
Chris Hamer "The King Of Morwong" catching a Morwong at 39cm worth 59.97pts.
I believe Alan Backhouse was unlucky in losing a Morwong of a winning size at the boat.
Category winners for the weekend are. Men’s Outside was won by Steve Affleck with a Snapper 56cm worth 116.58pts.
Women's Outside winner was Rachel Weatherby catching a Sand Flathead 45.5cm worth 69.06pts.
Mens lake and Estuary winner was Marshall Howarth with a Bream 32.6cm worth 80.69pts.
No winner for the Women's Lake and Estuary.
Mens Rock and Beach was won by Tory Puglisi with a Salmon 57cm worth 97.5pts.
Women's Rock and Beach winner was Linda Puglisi catching an excellent Salmon at 58.2cm worth 100.5pts.
No Junior award was won. Mystery Fish No. 10 Garfish was not won.
Turkey of the Month was easily given to Jeanie Dixon. Jeanie and Dianne decided to go beach fishing. Jeanie took a container of Tuna Oil to use as a burly. Jeanie cut the container open, the oil was a bit congealed so Jeanie thought if she stood on it the oil would come out. It surely did, squirting up all over Jeanie. How did it smell Jeanie? A good laugh was had by both girls.
We start a new competition year now. September goblet dates will be Fri. 11th-Sat.12th- Sun. 13th. Target fish is the highest scoring non goblet species fish.
Members voted last weekend that a new starting time of 2pm on the Friday of our competitions.
This will only apply during the non daylight savings period.
I am at present working on our new competition calendar for this coming year with all the dates for our Goblet competitions and social events. It will be sent out when all dates are confirmed.
Thank you all again for your support last season and please keep your fish coming in for recording. Until then, enjoy your fishing.

Fishing club members, this weekend coming is the last Goblet competition of our calendar year.
August is the last Goblet competition. We save the best for last as this month's Goblet fish is MORWONG. A much sought after award amongst the outside fishing members. One of Gavin's most valued fish. Just ask him.
This weekend is the last chance to gain those valuable points and decide who are our category winners for the year.
Competition starts this Friday 14th at 4pm with Measure In on Sunday 16th at 2pm to be held at the Tuross Club. Followed by a BBQ lunch.
After lunch the Tuross Fishing Club will hold its AGM . Where annual reports will be given and all committee positions will be elected for the coming year. And discuss any upcoming issues.
We will also be voting on who you deem to be the Club Person of the Year.
We hope to see as many Fishing club members as possible for this important day.
Weather for this coming weekend I'm sorry to say may not be looking too promising with another cold front possibly moving through our region. So take care if the weather is a bit unpleasant.
As always, try to send me your fish details as early as possible.
Please let Mark and Cate know ,via Whats App, if you are attending the BBQ on Sunday, for catering numbers.
Until Sunday enjoy your fishing and good luck.

So proud of our little fishing club & all our wonderful volunteers, who have been doing the ANZAC breakfast for many years.

Once again I have forcast near perfect weather conditions for our Fishing Club's Goblet Competition. The only thing wrong was the quantity of Garfish to be found. These elusive little fish lived up to their reputation. However I did manage to record 14 Garfish. Overall for the weekend I recorded 69 fish by 18 members with 13 different species. A great effort by our members.
The winner of the February Goblet went to David Backhouse catching the best Garfish of the weekend at 27.9cm worth 116.04 pts. Congratulations to David, you should have been fishing Outside.
Mens Lake and Estuary winner was David Backhouse with his 27.9cm Garfish.
Women's lake and Estuary was won by Carol Kenney catching a garfish 25.3cm worth 98.7pts.
Mens outside was won by the "Birthday Boy" Gavin Robinson with a Pigfish 41cm worth 106.16pts.
Women's outside winner was Jeanie Dixon for bringing up a large rock? No it was a Sand Flathead 47cm worth 73.75pts.
No winner for Mens Rock and Beach.
Women's Rock and Beach was won finally by Rachel Weatherby catching a Bream 29cm worth 56.68pts.
Junior award was given to Chris Westbury catching a Mullet 40cm worth 74.4pts.
Mystery Fish was no. 11 Morwong 44cm. Nearest was Birthday Boy Gavin Robinson proudly catching a Morwong of 42cm.
Turkey of the Month or "Story of the Month". Gavin Robinson driving down the highway early on Saturday was daydreaming about the large Morwong he hoped to catch and ignored the call that there is a Kangaroo standing on the road. Too late to brake, he runs over the poor Kangaroo. Later after crossing the Moruya bar entrance they look up in the sky and there is a cloud. It looked like the shape of a Kangaroo. Was this a heavenly message?
Next month's Goblet Competition is to be held on March 20th-21st-22nd the target Goblet fish will be TAILOR.
Only two weeks to go before the Flathead and Bream Tournament, the number of entrants are looking to be over 200, making for a great event. Help by members is going to be greatly appreciated, if you are able to help let us know.
Till next month enjoy your fishing.

Members get your floats ready and make your nice smelly burly for this coming weekend. It is our monthly Goblet competition and GARFISH are our Goblet target fish for the weekend's competition. Garfish are wonderful tasting fish but can be a bit tricky to catch. Using burly easily attracts them around the boat. A float with a lite line, small hooks and a small piece of bait is the best way to catch these great little fighters. Don't be surprised if you attract other species of fish in the burly trail.
Fishing starts Friday 20th at 4pm and will conclude on Sunday 22nd. at 4pm. Measure In time is 4pm. To be held at the Tuross Club with a BBQ to follow.
Please let us know if you are attending for catering numbers.
It is important with Garfish that you measure the fish tail first. Length is taken from the tail to end of the lower mouth, not the end of the beak.
As normal please try to submit your two best of each species to me as early as possible.
With details of kept or released and category, Lake ,Beach or Outside.
The Flathead and Bream Tournament ,March 6th-7th-8th is not far away. Numbers are looking good and we ask members to help volunteer with any little job. On Sunday we will be discussing what we will need regarding the event.
Good fishing and see you all on Sunday afternoon. The weather should be perfect for fishing.

We don't like to hear stories like this...

We have been contacted by Luke Turner who had a Minn Kota Riptide trolling motor stolen from the Tuross Lakeside Holiday Park the other night. (Shortly before Saturday 31 January.)
It had a different head on it to allow for remote control and spotlight / GPS etc. So it is a bit distinctive.
Can you please message us if you hear anything on the grapevine?
Could’ve been a local or a traveller at the park but who knows…

Serial Number is j258mk0026.

Thanks from Mike B
