Proper pub food, local wines and beers, open fires and a sprawling beer garden. The Plough Inn dates back to 1864,it is claimed Ned Kelly had ridden his horse down the main hall of the pub, while that may just be a tale,Ned did work in Tarrawingee and it is said that he and his gang would have a drink or two and would sit on a knotted wooden bench which is still here today(ask to see Neds bench!

Some meals are just dinner. Others settle into the kind of evening you talk about on the drive home.

The beer garden at golden hour. A steak cooked just right, a frothy beer within reach, string lights overhead and the fire pit glowing nearby. An ordinary weeknight, quietly turned into something worth remembering.

Come find us at the gateway to Victoria’s High Country.

In 1861, a timber inn appeared at the edge of the goldfields track.

Travellers tied their horses out front, rested their boots and continued on toward the mountains.

This photograph captures those early years - horses hitched to the verandah, a covered wagon out front, men gathered beneath the porch and a small child standing in the dirt, looking up at the inn.

Before the brick walls that stand today. Before the bistro. The Plough began as a simple timber inn on the early routes linking the goldfields, farms and mountain tracks - a wayside stop for travellers heading to the High Country.

For more than 160 years, The Plough Inn has stood at the heart of Tarrawingee.

Generations of locals and travellers have walked through its doors.

And they still do today.
