The Plough Inn dates back to 1864,it is claimed Ned Kelly had ridden his horse down the main hall of the pub,while that may just be a tale,Ned did work in Tarrawingee and it is said that he and his gang would have a drink or two and would sit on a knotted wooden bench which is still here today(ask to see Neds bench!

A new tradition is coming to The Plough Inn.

Four times a year, we'll be opening the grounds of the historic inn to a curated collection of local makers, growers, producers and artisans from across Victoria's High Country.

Welcome to THE PLOUGH INN SEASONAL MARKETS.

Set beneath the 160-year-old wisteria and within the grounds of the property, each market will bring together a curated collection of makers, growers, artisans and producers showcasing everything from fresh produce and flowers to homewares and handcrafted goods.

Designed as a relaxed afternoon and evening experience, our Seasonal Markets are an invitation to wander the stalls, enjoy a glass of local wine or ale, catch up with friends and settle in for an afternoon at the pub.

We'll be hosting four markets each year:

WINTER • SPRING • SUMMER • AUTUMN

Dates will be finalised shortly.

We are now inviting applications from stallholders who create exceptional products and would like to be part of this exciting new tradition.

One month ago, we opened the doors to The Plough Inn under new ownership.

Since then, it has been nothing short of extraordinary.

For three of our first four weeks, we have been booked out on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday lunches. We have hosted 5th birthday celebrations, 60th birthdays, 80th birthdays, tables for one, and tables for thirty. We have welcomed locals, travellers, families, friends and visitors from all corners of Victoria and interstate.

As we pause to reflect on our first month, we have spent a lot of time thinking about what is most important.

For us, it comes down to three simple things: good food, good service and genuine hospitality.

We care deeply about our staff, and we care deeply about every person who walks through our doors. As custodians of this historic pub, our goal is simple - to create the best possible experience every time you visit.

With that in mind, we have made the strategic decision to permanently trade Thursday through Sunday for both lunch and dinner service. This will allow our team to focus on consistency, quality and delivering the experience we want The Plough to be known for.

We are also excited to announce that from 25th June, our new Coffee Window will be open seven days a week from 6:30am until 10:30am.

Grab a barista-made coffee, toasted sandwich, egg and bacon roll or pastry on your way through. Online pre-ordering will be available, making it even easier to pick up and go.

If you have a little more time, pull up a seat at our new picnic tables out the front, watch the world go by and enjoy a slower start to your day.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us during our first month. We are only just getting started.

If you are towing a caravan, camper or trailer, our drive-in, drive-out off-street parking means you can pull in, stretch the legs, enjoy a proper pub lunch or dinner, and be back on the road in no time.

Located just 250m off the Great Alpine Road between Wangaratta and Beechworth, we are perfectly positioned for travellers heading to Bright, Mount Hotham, Falls Creek and beyond.

The fire will be roaring, the beer cold, and the kitchen serving hearty country pub favourites all weekend.

SATURDAY DINNER & SUNDAY LUNCH UPDATE

With a cold and wet weekend on the way, we are now completely booked inside for Saturday dinner and Sunday lunch.

As winter starts to settle into the High Country and snow traffic starts making its way through the region, we strongly recommend booking ahead for the coming weeks.

The fire will be crackling, the pies hot and hearty, and the beer ice cold.

A few new additions have landed on the menu this week at The Plough Inn.

Chicken Liver Pâté served with cornichons and toasted sourdough, alongside our Pie of the Day - this week, Chicken & Leek with golden puff pastry, creamy mash and peas. Proper pub food for the colder weather rolling into the High Country.

Last week, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights were booked out, so if you are planning on joining us this week, we strongly recommend booking ahead online or calling 5719 2722.

As the nights get colder, we would much rather have you settled into the warmth of the Bistro or near the fire in the Bar than tucked away in the Long Room.

One week ago we got the keys to The Plough Inn.

Seven days later, we opened the doors.

To say the support over our first weekend was overwhelming would be an understatement. Seeing locals, familiar faces, travellers and new guests filling the pub again meant more to us than we can explain.

There are so many people to thank.

To Andrew and Rachael from thank you for helping shape the foundations of what we are building.

To Michael, our chef, who has stayed on through the transition, thank you for your hard work, care and commitment to the kitchen.

To our staff, both existing and new, thank you for jumping in with open minds, long hours, incredible energy and pure heart during a very big weekend.

And to all of the local trades and suppliers who worked around the clock to help us get the doors open within seven days of settlement, we truly could not have done it without you.

This is only the beginning.

There is still so much we want to improve, refine and bring to life over time, and we are incredibly excited for what is ahead.

For now, thank you for embracing us so warmly as custodians of this beautiful old pub. We cannot wait to continue offering you the very best of what we can do.

We are completely humbled to be stepping in as custodians of The Plough Inn Tarrawingee.

The welcome we have received, even before settlement, and thereafter, has meant an enormous deal to us.

Over the past few days, some of you may have seen work happening around the building. We are working with local trades, experts in their craft, who are carefully restoring and caring for the inn with respect for its history and heritage.

We are looking forward to opening the doors in a few days and welcoming you back in.
