10 years, The 10 Defining Moments that shaped us…
Before the artists.
Before the parties.
Before the stories.

There was just a 40-seater chicken shop in Surry Hills and a pretty wild idea.

Fried chicken.
Hip-hop.
Champagne.
Sneakers.

Food in shoeboxes.
Consignment kicks on the wall.
Artists rolling through.

People thought we were a sneaker shop.
People called us gimmicky.
Some called us idiots.

They might’ve been right.

But when the soft opening hit…
lines out the door,
chicken flying out the window,
champagne bottles popping…

we realised this wasn’t just a restaurant.

It was a moment.

And two weeks later…

Wu-Tang walked through the door.

Ten years ago we opened a 40-seater chicken shop in Surry Hills built on everything we loved —
fried chicken, hip-hop, champagne and sneakers.

Food.
Music.
Booze.
Art.
Culture.
Fashion.
Community.
What followed was more fun than it probably should have been.

We’ve hosted some of the biggest names in the world.
Seen artists before they blew up — and after they already had.
And been part of the heartbeat of hip-hop culture here in Sydney.

Through it all we’ve stayed true to the same idea:

Better food.
Better drinks.
Better music.
And having a good fu***ng time while doing it.

No dupes. Just original culture.

So for our 10 year birthday we’re looking back.

Not at everything — that would take forever.

But 10 moments that helped shape Butter.

The events.
The chef series.
The artist takeovers.
The people.
The moments.
The culture.
