Knock, knock…

Join us for a treat, a trick, or just a taste next Halloween (Sat 31 Oct 2026, 4-6.30 PM) at Sample Coffee Marrickville.

We’ll showcase different coffees from notable roasters in Sydney and surrounds, in a blind-then-reveal cupping format.

Come for just a taste and a hangout, or join our guessing game (before the reveal) for a chance to walk away with your favourite coffee. And perhaps more…

ROASTERS

Don’t hide, we’re knocking on your door! Because our basket is only half-full.

If you’re keen to put forward some of your coffee, please DM Sample Coffee or Slurps Up… Sydney to organise.

The theme: coffees that taste like a treat (candy) or a trick (😏), or both.

GUESTS

This is a ticketed event with limited spots – no walk-ins, unfortunately. This will be the 1st event at this location, so we want to make sure the space works well and everyone has a good time.

No cold foam. No cream. No added sugar. No extras.

Just some pretty good coffee, water, and the right amount of steeping time. Plus some crispy ice, of course.

☕️ 💦 ⏳

This is our cold brew and it’s delicious.

Because sometimes, it’s the simple things… you know?

⭕️

We serve cold brew all year round in all our stores. You can also make it at home anytime using our own recipe and ratios:

Our shops and roastery will be closed next Monday 5 October for the public holiday.

We’ll resume our weekly roasting and shipping on Tuesday.

🏖️

Also, we’ve sadly decided to cancel our monthly tastings for October (originally scheduled for today and tomorrow in Surry and St Peters).

Why? Our hands are full while we finalise the roastery move and relocation, with the St Peters space transitioning into new systems now that it’s not our HQ anymore! So we think it’s best to take a break and come back fully freshened in November.

But who knows, we may come up with something in Marrickville now that the warehouse starting to look nice and cozy… 😏

Enjoy this long weekend.

𝔹𝕝𝕦𝕖
Our first-ever coffee from India!

Brought by Osito Coffee & Cacao, it’s a delicious lot from a passionate and progressive family duo.

Mr Ajoy Thipaiah (dad) oversees the plantation, focusing on tree health and overall agronomy. Pranoy (son) leads the post-harvest processing stages; he’s curious about both fermentation and variety-forward cup profiles, leaning more towards clarity – flavours mainly determined by plant genetics and the native microbiome.
This lot features one of his experimental methods, analogue sourdough bread. He makes a starter culture using parchment coffee and mucilage; the native yeasts and bacteria present on these activate within the mixture, which is then cultivated into a vibrant starter culture that will be inoculated during the fermentation process.

The Loring and the Ball are safe and sound in their new Marrickville home.

🏡

Yesterday was the official move day from St Peters! We did just as our specialised coffee roaster removalist/relocator prescribed:

“Pack everything onto the trucks, go slowly, and squeeze your bum cheeks until it’s all in the new place.”

Lols 🍑

Jokes aside, it all went super smoothly, all thanks to a small team of friends and professionals with nerves made of the same material as the coffee roaster (solid stainless steel). It was perhaps the most stressful day of our lives, but we got there.

It’s not every day that you move the 1-tonne heart and centre of your business (life?)!

Now, to wait for the gas…

💨

Can you guess where we’ll be roasting until then?

A late and massive thanks to everyone who helped keep Holt Street car-free!

💪 🙏

With all things Marrickville opening/move during the last month, we forgot to share and celebrate the best news:

City of Sydney “no longer propose reopening [to traffic] Holt Street at Devonshire Street” due to the “overwhelming” public opposition to this plan. Which means the existing pocket park is staying as is: free of cars, all for pedestrians.

We’re obviously thrilled not to endure yet another round of construction works right in front of our little shop! But we’re even more stoked to know that most people around here (residents, workers, neighbouring businesses, visitors – some of these also our amazing customers) want a city that puts people and street life before convenience, and can get together and rally to make that happen.

Thanks again to everyone who spoke to the officers, sent an email, and filled in the survey. And cheers to everyone who uses and brings life to this place everyday.

From little things…

All eyes may be on our fresh Marrickville shop, but the good stuff keeps going as usual at Sample Coffee Surry Hills and St Peters.

Our free monthly tasting sessions are coming up this week, and guess what? We’ve got 2 x El Sal, 1 of them natural process (alongside some Sample staple origins from Colombia, Ethiopia, and Kenya). If you know… 😏

RSVP via LINK IN BIO - or turn up unannounced and hope there’s some juice for you, we’ll do our best to provide. Always.

See you?

We’ve just opened Sample Coffee Marrickville! A “futuristic” micro espresso bar next to our (soon to be) coffee roastery.

🔥

Last Friday (28 August) we quietly opened the doors of our newest shop, Sample Coffee Marrickville. It’s a small – but powerful! – retail space attached to what will be the home of our future roastery.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁
As some of you may know already, we need to move the roastery out of St Peters due to the Precinct 75 redevelopment works. (But not the Pro Shop! The cafe is staying alive and open for the foreseeable future!)

Earlier this year, we secured the building at 37 Sydenham Road, Marrickville, and have since been steadily working on the relocation. It’s now all ‘go’ except for one last, essential factor: gas! Which we absolutely need to fire up and roast with our Loring Kestrel S35.

Unfortunately, we don’t know when the connection will happen. But we were so keen (and ready) to be in the buzzing Sydenham Road, so we decided to open the espresso bar first, and do the roastery later. (Hopefully not too long!)

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
It’s 50 metres from Sydenham Station, steps away from the western Metro gates. You don’t even have to change footpaths: tap out, walk 30 seconds, and boom! We’re there.

Local tip 1: parking is quite scarce, except for some ‘kiss-and-ride’ spots. If you’re keen to visit, the best move is to walk, cycle, or metro/train here.

Local tip 2: watch out for mindless e-bike riders on this footpath; there are plenty. Take care of yourselves.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲
It embraces the local industrial character, street art culture, and brewery/taproom scene. It’s relaxed, playful, pragmatic, and focused on what really matters to us: sharing delicious coffee.

The espresso bar/retail shop occupies the existing shopfront room of the previous business – a swimwear manufacturing company. It’s tiny, and we kept it that way.

The few additions: a floating solid timber bar counter, a rear work station, some retail shelves, and a cozy window bench. Plus, a “futuristic” [sic.] coffee setup designed to serve the working local workforce and station commuters.
