A honest update from us.

You might noticed a few small changes to our menus...

As I am sure you have heard businesses can no longer pass on card surcharges. On the surface, that sounds like a win — no extra fee when you tap your card.

The reality for small businesses is a little different.

The cost of processing those payments hasn’t gone away. The banks still charge us between 1.25% and 1.85% on every order processed via our eftpos machine. This small percentage in real terms work out to about $2000 extra per month that we need to come up with.

We could have simply increased everything, but we didn’t want to do that. Instead, we’ve made small changes to a handful of items and we’re absorbing as much of the extra cost as we realistically can.

The honest answer is, we can’t absorb all of it.

We know everyone is feeling the pinch, and we know nobody wants to see prices go up. We’ve tried to keep changes as small as possible while still making sure we can keep paying our team award wages and super on time, buying fresh, local produce, maintaining our cafe and ensuring we keep up with the list of never ending regulatory sh*t. We got into business to support other local business, the community and provide a safe, respectful workspace. Its important to always remember this.

And we’re not cutting the good things.

Our coffee and bacon & egg roll deal is staying, and we’re pretty proud that it’s still one of the best value brekkies around.

Throwback Wednesdays are staying too — discounted bacon & egg rolls, plus our discounted roll and coffee deal, all day every Wednesday at Emu and Springwood.

We’re not a big chain with a big investment behind us. We’re a local café, run by a local family, with local teams and plenty of costs that keep going up behind the scenes.

We’re just trying to navigate the changes the best we can.

From Saturday 31 October, we're opening up the morning once a month for good coffee, breakfast and a few good cars.

Bring your pride and joy, bring a mate, bring the family — whatever you're driving, come down, grab a coffee and hang out.

No judging, no big production. Just cars, coffee and a good Saturday morning.

We want to give a little bit more context about Bucklands ❤️

We’ve heard some of your feedback about the menu, service and what you’d like to see available here, so we thought it was worth explaining where Bucklands fits within Finn & Co.

Bucklands was never going to be a high-volume café with constant foot traffic. It’s a smaller site, with a smaller team and, importantly, there’s no kitchen connected to the café.

When we were invited to take over Bucklands, we were given the opportunity to use a separate commercial kitchen. That kitchen isn’t located at the Buckland café and it services our entire business - from our other two locations through to our catering business.

While this opportunity has given us the chance to bring a little bit of Finn & Co to Bucklands — good coffee, fresh bites and the same friendly service you know from our other cafés. It also means we have to work within what the site can realistically support.

We simply can’t run a full Finn & Co menu here with the same range and kitchen capacity as our other locations. Doing that would mean more staff, more food prep, more equipment and more costs than a café of this size and footprint can support.

So yes, the menu at Bucklands is more limited. That’s intentional.

What we can do is keep focusing on good coffee, fresh bites, a few things done well and that familiar Finn & Co service — while making sure the café is sustainable for us to run.

We really do appreciate the feedback, and we’re listening. We’ll keep making changes where they make sense, while staying realistic about what Bucklands can be.
