Rosebud RSL

Rosebud RSL The RSL has a large bistro, Sportsbar, TAB and outdoor area. It is a community focused venue focusi

The RSL was founded in June 1916 and evolved as a direct result of the camaraderie, concern and mateship shown by the diggers for the welfare of their mates during and after the 1915 - 1918 war. That ethos of compassion, service and loyalty remains to this day the motivating influence of the RSL. Our mission is to ensure that programs are in place for the well-being, care, compensation and commemo

ration of serving and ex-serving Defence Force members and their dependants; and promote Government and community awareness of the need for a secure, stable and progressive Australia. We aim to conrtinue to provide a friendly and welcoming environment to the broader community. Our Sub-Brach network provides opportunity for individuals to become part of the local community to ensure commemoration and the tradition of the RSL name continues.

Bruce Turner has been a significant figure within the Rosebud RSL, dedicating decades of selfless service to both the veterans and our Club. His unwavering commitment to veteran advocacy, welfare, and the ongoing success of the Rosebud RSL has left a lasting legacy.
In recognition of Bruce's outstanding contribution, we have proudly renamed our function room the "Turner Room."
The new signage and commemorative plaque were officially unveiled at a special gathering held at the Club last Friday. The event was very well attended by members, guests, and dignitaries, including the President of RSL Victoria, Dr Mark Schroffel, who joined us to acknowledge Bruce's remarkable service and celebrate this well-deserved honour.

We will have one bus running today from 2 PM to 11 PM. We appreciate your patience.

On 27 July each year, we commemorate Korean Veterans' Day. This is the anniversary of the day in 1953 when an armistice was signed to end the fighting in Korea. This day is a time for us to remember the almost 18,000 Australians who served in the war, including some 340 who lost their lives.

The Korean War started on June 25, 1950, when North Korea invaded South Korea. Within days, the North Korean army took control of South Korea's capital, Seoul.

In response, the United Nations Security Council labelled North Korea as the aggressor and formed a command to assist South Korea. Australia joined 20 other countries to send military forces to help defend South Korea.

This war became one of the most devastating conflicts in recent history, with many major cities in Korea suffering significant damage. The total number of people who died reached around 3 million, including a large number of civilians.

Fighting officially came to an end on July 27, 1953, when an agreement was signed by representatives from the United States, North Korea, and China. Some Australian military personnel stayed in Korea until 1957 as part of a peacekeeping force after the fighting stopped.

The Korean War is often called the "forgotten war" because it took place between two more well-known conflicts: World War II and the Vietnam War.
