Christmas dinners here are worth locking in early this year.

Sin, Sweat and Sorrow makes a genuinely good spot for a team's end-of-year dinner, w**e and tapas built for sharing rather than a set menu nobody asked for, and a room that doesn't feel like every other function space booked out this time of year. If a date's already circled on the calendar, it's worth getting in early.

A quick heads up, Sin, Sweat and Sorrow will be closed for a private event on Wednesday 30 September.

We'll be back to our usual hours the following day. If Wednesday was the night you had in mind, get in touch and we'll help find you another one that suits.

The next menu is already being built, one test plate at a time.

A new seasonal menu lands in October, and September is when it gets tried, adjusted, tried again, until each dish earns its place.

Keep an eye out over the next few weeks. Some of what's being tested is already starting to turn up on tables.

Fred Walker takes the room from 2pm on 27 September, live music drifting through the afternoon the way it does every Sunday here. Same w**e, same pace, just a different voice in the room this time.

This building had a life before it had w**e in it.

Sin, Sweat and Sorrow shares a heritage-listed building on East Street with a handful of other offices, and occupies just the one corner of it. The pressed tin and stonework were never built for a w**e and tapas lounge. We just gave them a reason to stay lit a little later than the rest of the block.

There's a second label pouring alongside Hentley Farm's flagship reds.

Villain & Vixen brings a GSM, a Shiraz, a Rosé and a Pinot Grigio, all from the Barossa Valley, all available by the bottle or the glass. The Shiraz has already found its favourite in the building, it's the one Chris keeps reaching for himself.
