Our centre is proud to be hosting the Capricornia School Sport Waterpolo State Championships from Thursday - Sunday this weekend!

Poppies Café will be open all weekend serving up your favourites for athletes, spectators and our regular centre visitors ☕

Tucked inside Rockhampton’s much loved Southside Aquatic Centre, officially the 2ND World War Memorial Aquatic Centre, sits a space that’s seen more than its fair share of starts and stops.

Originally known as Red Poppy Café, the name carried meaning. A quiet connection to the history of the centre itself.

But for years, it never quite found its place.

For nearly eight years, the café struggled to stay open.
Limited hours. Two failed attempts. A space people walked past… not one they stopped in.

Until 2024.

That’s when Splash took over the lease and saw something different.

Not just a café.
An opportunity to create energy in the centre.
A place that matched the life happening around it.

We didn’t remove the meaning behind the poppy.
We built on it.

And Poppies Café was born.

A space designed for our community, families, swimmers, staff, early risers, weekend regulars.

Then we introduced something completely new.

Handcrafted, barista made drinks, sealed into cans, right in front of you.

Fresh. Made to order.
Canned on the spot.

Rockhampton’s first and only coffee-in-a-can experience.

What was once overlooked is now part of the rhythm of the centre.

From early morning squads…
To learn to swim families…
To major events that bring the region together…

Poppies Café isn’t just a café anymore.
