QUANDONG DARK RYE — TODAY’S EXPERIMENT

Quandongs have arrived exceptionally early this year—and these big, bright, juicy beauties were grown by our apprentice, Beth.

We’ve folded them through a rich dark rye dough and baked just 11 trial loaves in our 1910 wood-fired oven.

We haven’t even tasted them yet. They may need more quandong, less quandong—or they may be just right. But they’re looking too good not to share, so they’re going on the shelf!

What a week!

We’ve just had our biggest week ever at the Spirit of the Flinders Bakery.

Since extending our opening hours, we’re getting a clearer picture of how many people want to visit each day—and we’re incredibly grateful. Your support is helping us grow, and right now, we’re running to keep up!

To give our team time to restock, reset and prepare for another big week, the bakery will be closed tomorrow, Sunday.

We’ll be back from Wednesday with more ingredients, firing ovens and a team ready to go again.

The Galloping Grannies & Co. have been part of our story from the beginning, regularly riding in to visit us—and we always love seeing them arrive. 🐴

This time, the day began with breakfast at the Spirit of the Flinders Bakery before a ride through the countryside, finishing with a well-earned drink at the Flinders Gin Distillery.

Then it was time for riders and horses to rest before the next adventure: boarding the horses on the Pichi Richi Railway.

Breakfast, a countryside ride, a drink and a train journey for the horses—what a wonderfully Quorn day. 🤎

Our apprentice Bethany started her week with a visit from a horse—and then took the rest of us on a journey of delight through everything she created. 🐴🥐🍪

Scrolls, finger buns, beautiful bread, a rather spectacular sweet creation and those chocolate wattleseed cookies…

We would have shared these photos earlier, but we needed to be absolutely certain they weren’t promoted too well before closing time—and that there were enough chocolate wattleseed cookies left for quality-control purposes.

We take these responsibilities very seriously.
