"Can I eat here?"
For most people, that's a simple question.
For a Coeliac, it can be exhausting!
My name is Adam, and I've been Coeliac for many years.
I've lost count of how many times I've stood in front of a display cabinet full of beautiful pastries, cakes and food, only to realise there was nothing I could safely eat.
Or the times I've been told something was "gluten free" only to discover later that it wasn't truly Coeliac-safe.
It's one of the reasons my wife Rejoice and I opened Dovetail on Overend in Norman Park back in 2014, and then our second location Dovetail Social in Highgate Hill.
We didn't want to create a café with a few gluten-free options.
We wanted to create the café we wished existed for us.
A place where a Coeliac can enjoy breakfast, lunch, coffee, donuts and desserts without feeling like the difficult person at the table.
A place where families don't have to split up because one person needs to eat somewhere else.
A place where grandparents can bring their Coeliac grandchild and simply say, "Order whatever you'd like."
That's still what drives us today.
Every dessert we make is gluten free.
Every member of our team understands cross-contamination.
Every day we meet people who tell us they had no idea a café like this existed in Brisbane.
