GENUINE BEFORE AND AFTER PHOTOGRAPHS

Actually, that's totally untrue, although the bike on the right had been sitting in a shed for 13 years. It needed a lot of work.

You see, I think I have a disorder. I actually like dismantling bikes, cleaning them, fixing them, and (usually) successfully putting them back together.

This is where you come in.

Around Australia, there are thousands of bikes sitting in dark places - unloved, neglected, and unwanted. They are often covered in bird sh*t, cobwebs, and general filth. There's usually plenty of rust, and the tyres? Let's agree they will never see a road again.

I'm looking for a couple of older bikes to give some love to (the older the better). Ideally a vintage racing bike, but I'll consider most things (except broken Big W machines).

If you've got something interesting rotting in your shed, let's talk.

We had a great day at the Pomona Country Markets - thanks to everyone who came and supported us.

Sadly, the not-so-trusty Pajero didn't make it home. You'll probably find bits of exploded diesel engine all over the road between Pomona and Cooran.

Which means we don't have any form of transport until some kind of vehicular miracle happens.

Clearly we won't be fronting up to the Gympie Showground Sunday Market tomorrow. For those expecting to collect orders, please message us - we can probably arrange local delivery. I still have a functioning bicycle.

WHAT'S ON THIS WEEKEND?

We'll be at Pomona Country Markets tomorrow morning, and Gympie Showground Sunday Market the day after. You may have to wander a bit to find us, but that's the magic of markets - you never know what you might find.

Once you find our stall, here's what we're bringing:

🫖 To brew great tea, you need a brewing vessel of some sort. We have an interesting range of teapots - from new to old, modern and vintage. We're also taking orders for cast-iron pots in black and red for delivery in two weeks.

📚 We still have around 8,000 books left over from our bookstore adventure. This weekend we'll have a curated selection of cookery books - and they're all excellent. We'll never try to sell you titles like '101 ways with Kale', or 'Get your kids to eat Zucchini'. Instead they are all written by recognised chefs, not reality TV personalities. Most are protected in archival sleeves.

☕️ Oh, we'll have tea as well. Our stocks are gradually recovering after the rooftop debacle of a few weeks ago, so we'll have a range of twelve black teas for sale (and all are available for free tasting).

We've also packed plenty of Chun Mee, a Chinese Green tea. There's also French Earl Grey, Ginger Bliss, Masala Chai, and Green Dragon (our blend of green tea and ginger).

Some very wise words, from one of Britain's finest bands.

They could have written this for us. Last weekend we attended two markets, and counted 461 people drinking takeaway coffee.

We sold 14 bags of tea (and a beautiful silver teapot from 1885). That's it.

I know people love coffee. But there's nothing in the rules that says you can't enjoy tea as well.

If you haven't had a good cup of tea for a while, or you've never drunk great tea, then give it a shot. You never know, you might love it.

THE BEST GREEN TEA IN THE WORLD...

And we have it.

We've secured limited supplies of the Spring 2026 picking of Dragon Well Green Tea from Longjing Village in China.

Longjing Dragon Well tea is produced in tiny quantities, and most of the Dragon Well sold on the market is fake (although some of the tea from nearby regions is excellent quality).

This is the real deal. If you love green tea but haven't tried Dragon Well, it will rock your world.

Is it expensive? Okay, let's put it into perspective.

A mediocre coffee from a coffee cart will cost you around six dollars.

A cup of Dragon Well will cost you around two dollars. And you can steep it three or four times. If you want to get really fancy, we have a few hundred grams of Exclusive Grade Dragon Well, which is the tea usually reserved for tastings in competitions.

WE NEED SOME GUINEA PIGS TO CONDUCT EXPERIMENTS ON

No, not the cute furry kind that people in South America think of as food, not friends.

I'm after larger mammals. Like you.

Here's the problem: Some of you asked if we stocked vanilla tea. So, I acquired some from a reputable tea merchant in Sydney.

I was, let's just say, a little underwhelmed (even though it was a good quality product).

So I thought... why not blend our own?

This is where you come in, as a human guinea pig.

I've made a couple of trial batches using different varieties of tea infused with organic vanilla pods from New Guinea (this is not where Guinea Pigs come from, I should add).

These will be available for tasting (or testing) at the Gympie Duck Pond market tomorrow morning.

We'll also have most of our range of black teas (currently standing at 18 varieties) for you to try as well.

Experiments begin at 7am. Come dressed as a guinea pig for a free gift voucher.

COMING THIS WEEKEND - REVERSE BUSKING

What's reverse busking? Simple. It's where I play guitar, and encourage people to give me cash to stop playing. Trust me, it will be money well spent.

Unless it sells first,I'll be bringing this guitar to Pomona Country Markets and Gympie Showground Sunday Market this weekend. Selling tea isn't proving very lucrative, so this is my latest scatter-brained scheme.

If you're a grown-up of a certain age, you my have even owned one of these - a Yamaha G55 from the 1970s. Actually, my first guitar was a G55, because I couldn't afford a black Gibson Les Paul. I don't remember what happened to it, but I suspect my parents may have burned it as a sacrifice.

This was in putrid condition when I bought it. It was covered with a half-century of grime and filth, and something had been nesting inside it.

It's now been fully refurbished and fitted with new Martin strings. It looks and plays great.

Yes, there are some scratches and battle scars, but it has been kicking around since Gough Whitlam was given the boot.

I reckon it's the perfect guitar for camping, recalling a wasted youth, and reverse busking.

It's yours for $165, which includes a very battered (but very stylish) hard case.

ps. The tuning pegs have yellowed with age, and I've resisted the temptation to bleach them. I love the fanciful idea that this has been played in smoky bars by some legendary rock band.
