July 1st will see Gelato & Co. Australia with a new owner!

I wanted to take this weekend to thank you all for your support. It has been an interesting ride, and I could not have done it without you - the customers who have supported the store since opening.

From the opening of the wholesale business in late 2016, to the pop-up store in 2017, to opening the official store the same week as Australia went into its first lockdown in April 2020, to the ongoing lockdowns in 2021, the floods in 2022, and major surgery in 2023, it has been quite a journey.

Winning Grand Champion at the Brisbane Fine Food Awards and numerous Gold Medals at Sydney Royal with recipes formulated in our little kitchen here in Murwillumbah, has certainly been a highlight, as well as getting to know many of our regular customers.

Watching the teenagers who have worked in the store grow and achieve dreams both in the catering industry and out, has also been fabulous. The staff,.young and old, have always been amazing. I could not have done it without each and every one of them.

Come down this weekend and say hello, farewell and make sure to look out for The Ugly Donut mobile food van at markets, festivals and events in the near future.

Byron Mitchell will be taking over as the new owner of Gelato & Co. Australia on Monday, July 1st - he has been busy in the kitchen learning the systems these past couple of weeks and is looking forward to growing the business to its full potential. 🍦

We are so deeply saddened... our beautiful bookkeeper Cilla Lee-Leong gained her wings today. Cilla was not only our bookkeeper, but a friend and incredible support person to the business and me (gelato chef Gab) over the past few years. The tears she mopped up during the lockdowns of 21' as we struggled to keep our doors opened and the floods of 22', while guiding us through insurance claims and grant applications, are flowing freely today.
Rest in peace beautiful woman, your fight to stay on this earth was tenaciously fought to the end, and now it is time to rest. You will be deeply missed. 🩷🍦🩷
