Having spent the past week travelling around a different region, calling into many Visitor Information Centres and engaging with the staff, one thing stands out: they are all volunteers and do their jobs incredibly well. The centres are bright and welcoming, the souvenirs are local specific and eye catching, they promote the local products as take home items. And, the biggest thing..... there is no Hub and Spoke model. They do not even know what that it. Every town and attraction, the public toilets are amazingly clean and well kept. This region is doing it right. We were blown away by the public facilities and layouts.

Certainly do miss these views.

Well it appears to be all systems go this morning at the cave. Kinda funny. We've only been waiting years to see this. About 6 years actually. Apparently all that was required was for us to vacate, council to take over, then stuff gets done!!

**EDIT... covering of the naturally formed solution tubes, that are a feature of the cave, and used to better help with the understanding of how caves are formed, seems to have been a priority also. Hmmm.

2 years ago we lost the best fix-it man this region has ever known. Harv was not only the best aluminium welder ever, he was also a regular customer (who to much dismay of those who knew him, would only have cappuccino with us, everywhere else it was long black), he was our fix-it dude, an amazing friend, and a second father figure to me. Miss you Harvie ole mate. Hope the cappuccino up there has an inch of fluff on top, just the way you like it. Luv from Jan and the rest of the muppets. Xx 💔

Fantastic team catch-up today. Josh, Jules, Tara, Jan, Patricia, the esteemed Mr Caveman himself, Lewy, and of course, our favourite "customer" Kev.

There you go folks! For those that have been asking, and speculating....it's all right here. Yes they are turning our beloved coffee shop into an information hub!!

Mount Gambier’s landmark Lady Nelson site is set to be repurposed as the City Council makes changes to its visitor servicing model.

Mount Gambier City Council will begin to implement a ‘hub and spoke’ visitor servicing model from this month. The concept involves a Visitor Centre Hub to be located at the main corner entrance of the Riddoch building on Commercial Street, with spoke sites at Engelbrecht Cave, Umpherston Sinkhole and the Blue Lake Welcome Centre.

Council has announced that changes to the service model means that the current visitor centre at the Lady Nelson site will be repurposed, aligned with the Community Land Management Plan.

Council is currently preparing a call out for Expressions of Interest (EOI) to seek community activation of the site, with a view to house the city’s creative industries and/or historic collections.
More details to come.
