WHERE IS YOUR CHOCOLATE COMING FROM THIS EASTER?
Are you supporting small artisan chocolate makers who are doing things right—paying farmers properly, sourcing ethical, consciously grown cacao that’s good for the Earth, good for your body, and good for the communities it’s grown in?
Or are you putting your dollars into cheap, nasty chocolate eggs—full of a heap of other s**t which support systems that are harmful for farmers, the land, and your own health?
Chocolate is one of those universal foods that almost everybody loves—and there’s a good reason for that.
Cacao, which all chocolate comes from, is an incredible plant. It has a long history of use in Central and South America by the Mayan, Olmec, and Aztec people. And when you choose to use this plant in its unadulterated form—like ceremonial cacao or cacao nibs—rather than a highly processed cacao powder, drinking chocolate or mass-produced chocolate product, you’re accessing some pretty amazing health benefits.
If you’re feeling inclined, have a look at the blog we’ve put together on our website about cacao and learn a bit more.
We source our cacao from in Tasmania. Paula runs a small family business processing cacao into what’s known as ceremonial cacao, which can be enjoyed as a drink, used in cooking, or taken as a daily ritual to support your health—and to promote pleasure, which let’s be honest, is why most of us reach for chocolate in the first place.
Your choices matter. I’m not telling you what to do. F**k, I’m no saint and have been known to throw many things down my gullet which aren’t aligned with my values and ethical framework, but it’s nice to have some awareness and be conscious about these things.
If we support big, dirty chocolate companies, we’re essentially complicit in the social, environmental, and economic issues that the cacao industry can perpetuate.
We’ve got 200g and 500g blocks of available to purchase, and we can also make you a beautiful ceremonial cacao drink when you’re out and about.
Come down and try it for yourself.
