A quick heads-up for today ☕️

We're hosting a group booking over lunch, so the café is expected to be a little busy!

We're open from 8am for coffee and breakfast, with the kitchen serving until 2pm. If you're planning to pop in, allow a little extra time and we'll do our best to look after everyone.

It's also a great reminder that our space is available for group bookings, meetings, community groups, celebrations and catch-ups. Letting us know in advance helps us roster appropriately and make sure everyone has a great experience.

If you've been thinking about organising a group gathering, we'd love to hear from you.

It’s Saturday which means it’s bread delivery day! Now, we’ve noticed that the bread has been selling out so we’re going to up the order throughout the week. We’ll monitor the sales and adjust where needed based on demand and minimum order quantities.

We’re in for a busy weekend in store! Kitchen is open 8:00-2:00pm.

If you’re doing the bin run, attending one of the morning fitness classes, needing to get out of the house or travelling to the mountains we’ll have the coffee flowing and the bacon grilling!

If you’re calling for some takeaway and no one answers, the phone is working, this means we are busy with customers in the store! Please practice patience and try again shortly 🙏🏼

What a weekend! 🙌

With the snow season officially underway and a long weekend on top of that, Michelago was buzzing. It all kicked off with a busy Friday night dinner service, followed by a weekend full of familiar faces, first-time visitors, travellers heading to the snow, motorbike groups out enjoying the sunshine, and even a beautiful baby shower on Saturday.

One thing that always surprises people is just how much the snow season impacts us. Even though we're 600m off the Monaro Highway and a long way from the slopes, we see a huge increase in visitors making the trip south and we're so glad you do.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped in, whether you grabbed a quick coffee, stayed for lunch, joined us for dinner, or made us part of your long weekend plans. Thank you for supporting a small village business and helping make Michelago feel like the community hub it is.

And a special shoutout to our incredible team. Lisa, Olivia, Lex, Liz and Caity, who worked all weekend to keep the coffees flowing, the meals coming out and the smiles going. ❤️

For those wondering, the clear crowd favourites this weekend were our Original Beef Burger 🍔 and the ANZAC Caramel Slice 🍯.

We’re taking inspiration and words from The Old Hume Cafe - Gunning on this one 🫶🏼

We know that people don’t like to talk about costs and profitability, and we’ve experienced our fair share of ‘I’m not paying that’ or ‘that’s a bit expensive’ or ‘well it never used to be like this’ - but here’s the reality.

The Fair Work Commission announced another increase to award wages of 4.75%, effective from 1 July 2026.

What many people don't realise is that this isn't a one-off increase. Over the past five years, cafés have absorbed:

• 2022 – 4.6% wage increase
• 2023 – 5.75% wage increase
• 2024 – 3.75% wage increase
• 2025 – 3.5% wage increase
• 2026 – 4.75% wage increase

On top of that, compulsory superannuation has increased from 10% to 12%.

To be clear, this isn't about staff not deserving a pay rise. Our team work hard and deserve to be paid fairly - our business would not function without them!

Over the same period, we've seen significant increases in the cost of goods:

Coffee, milk (and alternatives), eggs, bacon, fresh produce, meats. Liquor. Electricity, gas, fuel, insurances.

Most cafès aren't increasing prices to get rich.
We're increasing prices because we're trying to keep the doors open, continue employing local people, pay our staff fairly, and remain viable in an environment where costs continue to rise from every direction.

Times are tough for everyone right now. They're tough for families, they're tough for customers, and they're tough for small businesses.

So the next time you notice your local café increase their prices a little, please remember that we're facing rising costs across every aspect of our business.

We’re officially in June…how is it possible 😅

We had such a great weekend to finish off the month of May. As always, thanks to everyone who popped in and to our amazing team. Liz, Lex, Veronica and Xanthe 🫶🏼

Now, it is BINGO Monday but with lower numbers as we get into the cold and dark season we will be having a Winter break. We’ll bring BINGO back in Spring - NO BINGO TONIGHT.

Our hours in case you’re needing a reminder:

Monday-Thursday | 8:00am-5:00pm
Friday | 8:00am-7:00pm(ish)
Saturday-Sunday | 8:00am-3:00pm

Kitchen open until 2:00 daily, except Friday when we do dinner as well.
