When we found out that aluminium coffee pods take 400 years to break down and that 50 Billion of them end up in land fill each year we knew that something had to be done. So once we’d fine tuned our skill base and perfected the art of traditional coffee roasting at our Margaret River Roastery, we turned our minds to developing an alternative.

It took us three years but we’ve finally nailed it. A fully compostable 100% bio-based coffee pod that’s compatible with Nespresso machines but instead of taking 400 years to break down, breaks down at the same speed as an orange peel.

To make these environmentally friendly pods, we first roast sustainably sourced coffee beans in small batches in our traditional copper roaster. The freshly roasted coffee is then ground, the grind calibrated perfectly for the heat and pressure of Nespresso compatible machines. Then it’s packed and tamped into pods made from sugar cane fibre and biopolymers and each pod is then sealed for freshness with a high oxygen barrier.

The best quality beans, artisan roasted to perfection, making the best cup of coffee imaginable, in 100% compostable, environmentally friendly bio-based pods.

Welcome to the Margaret River Coffee Company, where we are dedicated to providing you with the freshest and most delicious coffee experience. Our coffee beans are ethically sourced from sustainable plantations, and are hand-roasted every day in our magnificent copper roaster. This traditional roasting method allows us to achieve the best flavour possible, and guarantees that our freshly roasted beans are of the highest quality.

Our roastery is located at 448 Tom Cullity Drive, Wilyabrup, where we invite you to come and see the roasting process for yourself, and to enjoy a cup of coffee made on site. We have two main types of roast; the Injidup blend, which has a rich, full-bodied flavor, and the Wilyabrup blend, which has a smooth and well-balanced flavor. We also have decaf coffee available and from next month we’ll be adding fully compostable coffee pods, which are a more sustainable option than traditional Nespresso pods, which take 400 years to break down. Our pods breakdown in six months, so you can enjoy your coffee at home without worrying about its impact on the environment.

After 23 years and a temporary hibernation for COVID, we’re finally up and running.

The Margaret River Coffee Company is located within the beautiful surrounds of Margaret River Providore and Coward & Black Vineyards on Tom Cullity Drive Metricup. We roast only the best ethically-sourced ultra-premium beans by hand in small batches on a classic, hand-built copper roaster.

Using coffee beans roasted fresh each morning, together with pure water drawn from our own underground spring and fresh southwest milk, we make the best takeaway coffee in the region.

And if you visit around 11 am each day you’ll be able to take home coffee beans so freshly roasted, they’re still warm.

Twenty three years ago, after a long winery lunch in Margaret River, we came up with an idea for two new businesses: The Margaret River Chocolate Company and The Margaret River Coffee Company. We registered both names the next day and so began an exciting journey that would see us establish one of Margaret River’s most well known businesses. With that same sense of excitement we are delighted to announce that we will soon be opening the second of those two businesses, and in so doing bring to fruition a dream we’ve had for more than twenty three years.

In late December within the beautiful surrounds of Providore in Wilyabrup we will be launching The Margaret River Coffee Company. We’ll be roasting every day on a hand built copper roaster, using the finest quality beans. And we’ll be making amazing coffee using organic milk from our neighbour’s farm and the purest natural spring water drawn from an ancient ironstone aquifer deep beneath our property.

To join together freshly roasted coffee beans, pure natural spring water and local organic milk in transformational alchemy we need the best barista there ever was. If you’re an experienced barista and you make amazing coffee and you’d like to learn how to roast coffee in one of the most welcoming and picturesque workplaces in Western Australia, this is the job for you.

We are a very friendly bunch, committed to the highest standards of product quality and customer service. We’ll be open 7 days a week. You’ll need to work on weekends but there’ll be no night shifts.
