“A night that feels like travel” - One night only, and it’s more than dinner. 🇺🇦✨

On Thu 18 June, Otakoï is hosting a Time Out Melbourne Social Club night - a guided “Journey to Ukraine” experience across our most loved flavours.

You’ll share starters, warm up with Borshch - the Ukrainian icon, taste a Varenyky plate, choose your main (Holubtsi or Pechenya), then finish with traditional Ukrainian sweets. And because this is Social Club in the truest sense, Hanna Kachura (who created Otakoï) will give a short welcome before dinner — sharing the story behind the restaurant and the meaning behind what you’re eating, so the night feels like a little lesson in culture (the delicious kind).

Two seatings only: 5:30pm + 8:00pm
$120pp includes set menu + 1 soft drink + 1 drink (beer or Ukrainian nalyvka).

Happy Vyshyvanka Day 💙💛

A vyshyvanka isn’t just clothing - it’s a living piece of Ukrainian identity. For generations, its patterns carried meaning: family roots, regional stories, and symbols of protection, stitched with love and care.

At Otakoi, we honour this tradition not only today, but every day. Our team welcomes guests wearing traditional vyshyvankas, and greets them with an embroidered rushnyk, along with bread and salt - a timeless Ukrainian gesture of respect and hospitality.

When we created Otakoi, we wanted that feeling to live in our space too - that’s why we have a vyshyvanka pattern on our walls. It was one of our first design ideas, and we ordered custom stencils to recreate the embroidery-inspired details the right way.

Today, come in wearing your vyshyvanka if you have one, or simply come as you are.

Happy birthday to our owner Hanna - the reason Otakoï feels like more than a restaurant. 💛

Hanna came to Australia with Ukraine in her heart: the scent of home cooking, the warmth of her culture, and a lifelong dream to open her own place.
Together with Micheal, she helped turn an empty space on Chapel Street into the Otakoï you know today - built with love, hard work, and a lot of courage.
