Serving Richmond for over 25 years We are the top 5th restaurant in Melbourne as stated in THE AGE.

www.yourrestaurants.com commented on the website about our restaurant:

While Burmese House has no lack of competition from the myriad Asian cheap-and-cheerfuls in Richmond, it attracts its fair share of diners and then some. Perhaps it's the attraction of trying Burmese food - influenced by Thai, Indian and Chinese cuisines, it promises an interesting change from the competition. Perhaps it's the

welcoming, rustic interior, or merely the bright and quirky teapot-shaped signage. Whatever the attraction, Burmese House is often packed full of diners, munching on dishes ranging from authentic regional curries, marrow fritters with tamarind dipping sauce and more familiar-sounding stir-fries.

Some dishes become famous and make it out of the city. Others quietly stay part of the everyday life back home. Khauk Swè Thoke is one of those dishes.

You’d usually find this in tea shops, market stalls and neighbourhood kitchens across Myanmar, it’s a simple but satisfying wheat noodle salad that many of us grew up eating.

At Burmese House, we toss our noodles in an in-house tamarind and chilli sauce for a balance of sweet, sour and just enough heat, finished with homemade tohu, fresh herbs and crunchy toppings. Like most thokes, it’s served cool to warm with a side of hot soup.

If you’ve never had mohinga, this is your sign to try the national dish of Myanmar one of these winter nights.

A rich and comforting fish noodle soup with a broth simmered for hours, layered with fresh herbs and crispy toppings. For some, it’s a taste of home. For others, it’s the perfect first introduction to Burmese food.

Pull up a chair, bring a friend, and let us feed you. 🤍

Creative Day reminded us why we love what we do at Burmese House, which is bringing people together through good food. But so can a poem, a bunch of flowers, a collage, or a conversation with someone you’ve only just met.

Thank you for facilitating a lovely session, .melb for the beautiful floral decorations and for the poetry workshop.

We’ll keep serving food and drinks that bring people to the table, while making room for the stories and connections that happen around it. So make sure to come by to our next community event, we promise it'll only get better 🫶

Guests often ask why our menu is relatively small or why we haven’t immediately included the Burmese classics, and our answer is that we want to be intentional, unhurried, and rooted in authenticity when we approach service and delivery, and to expand only when our kitchen is ready. But when you’re celebrating something special, we take that seriously too.

For this birthday dinner, we worked closely with the host to create a menu that reflected the occasion, including Bazun Hin (Burmese prawn curry), Bae Thwae (Duck blood jelly), burrata with heirloom tomatoes, and a seasonal ceviche with our own Burmese House twist. We also worked with local florists to bring our guests’ idea of a floral garden to life.

While not every request will make its way onto our everyday menu, but we love creating moments that feel personal, thoughtful and memorable.

There’s something about hosting your celebrations here because no one leaves hungry, whether that’s feeling full of good food or full from great company,

we leave fulfilled.

(Can you tell the poetry workshop is doing some wonders?)
