Some dishes become famous and make it out of the city. Others quietly stay part of the everyday life back home. Khauk Swè Thoke is one of those dishes.
You’d usually find this in tea shops, market stalls and neighbourhood kitchens across Myanmar, it’s a simple but satisfying wheat noodle salad that many of us grew up eating.
At Burmese House, we toss our noodles in an in-house tamarind and chilli sauce for a balance of sweet, sour and just enough heat, finished with homemade tohu, fresh herbs and crunchy toppings. Like most thokes, it’s served cool to warm with a side of hot soup.
