Komeyui Restaurant adapts the traditional Japanese rice cooking method (using hagama - cast iron rice cooker imported from Japan) that has approx. 900 years history. We aim to offer authentic and traditional Japanese dining experience to our customers, and to make wholesome Japanese food more accessible to anyone who wishes to enjoy and benefit from healthy Japanese eating.

Autumn, plated gently at the end.

A quiet sweetness — earthy, layered, and just a little unexpected.
Notes of roasted warmth, a wave of sweetness, something soft that lingers.
Not a finish, but a slow exhale.

This is how the season leaves its mark. 🍂

A gentle note for the Easter long weekend —
we’ll be welcoming you as usual across Easter, with a pause only on Monday as per our regular schedule.

Whether it’s your familiar favourites or a seasonal omakase moment, we look forward to seeing you at the counter.

Three pieces. One quiet moment.

In a world that rushes, this is where time slows —
the warmth of rice, the delicate cut of fish,
and the simple pleasure of holding something made with care.

Sometimes, it’s not about having more,
but tasting just enough.

Aki (秋) has arrived at Komeyui. 🍁

Autumn is when the flavours deepen.
The ocean grows richer, the air cools, and ingredients reach a quiet intensity that chefs wait all year for.

We never play favourites with the seasons…
but many would agree that autumn might be the most beautiful one on the plate.

Our Autumn Seasonal Omakase is now being served.
A new expression of the season, one course at a time.

Reserve your seat and experience Aki.

From Hiroshima to Melbourne.

Artist is a second-generation descendant of a Hiroshima family — a legacy that lives deeply within his work.

His composition “For Our Freedom” was written in honour of his family’s origins — a reflection on memory, resilience, loss and the quiet strength carried across generations. It is not simply music. It is lineage. It is offering. It is remembrance transformed into sound.

Now, in his latest immersive presentation, Benjamin brings this emotional depth into a multi-sensory ritual — where spatial sound, live performance and art converge beneath the vaulted ceilings of Fitzroy Town Hall.

We are honoured that this experience will be catered by Komeyui Melbourne, with a bespoke degustation designed to accompany the performance — five courses shaped by story, season and element.

An evening where heritage meets innovation.
Where sound becomes ceremony.
Where dining becomes part of the artwork.

Tickets are strictly limited.

Komeyui Melbourne was established in winter 2011.

Before omakase became widely known.
Before Japanese fine dining became a trend.

We opened with one clear intention — to honour tradition, precision and seasonality.

Not as an occasion restaurant.
But as a place you could return to.
Again and again.

For anniversaries.
For business lunches.
For a quiet seat at the counter on a Tuesday night.

Over the years, we’ve grown alongside Melbourne.

Through changing seasons.
Through evolving tastes.
Through moments that tested the industry.

And still, we remain steady.

The same spirit.
The same discipline.
The same respect for the craft.

To the guests who have been dining with us for over a decade — thank you.
You are part of our story.

Fourteen years on, we are still refining.
Still learning.
Still serving, plate by plate.

— Team Komeyui Melbourne ❤️
