The famous glazed chicken cooked over wood and charcoal, served with parsnip puree and petit pois à la francaise.
To this you can add a side: fries, salad or hot greens and you have a high level Monday night meal…huge plus, this is only $30.

Many other adventures in w**e, oysters and tarte tatins to be had…

Closely followed, Closely planted

If you have been to The Rec in the last couple of years, you may be familiar with Elanto Vineyard - we regularly introduce our locals to their w**es.

The reason for this: Elanto is the most exciting new Vic producer of recent times...this was again highlighted as they scooped the Best New Winery Award in the 2026 Halliday guide.

Sandro mosele is the w**emaking brains behind Elanto and he is hosting a dinner at The Rec to talk more in detail about about the the close planting model, state of the art w**ery set up and special site in Balnarring that have produced these lauded Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

The Elanto style whilst uniquely Victorian definitely references Burgundy as an influence, each bracket of w**e at the dinner will have an Elanto w**e paired with a w**e from Burgundy to show the inspirational through line.

The dinner is on Wednesday 29th July at 6.30pm. Four savoury courses, paired with an Elanto release and a w**e from Burgundy. There will be a small sweet treat to eat to finish.

This is priced at $220 per person. We anticipate that this will sell quickly. Get booked in from the link in our bio

The Rec’s winter dish.

Bubbling, saucy, hot

Oxtail parmentier - Brined oxtail, dredged in a blend of aromatic herbs and spices and cooked for 12 hours in stock and w**e.
Topped with silken piped potato duchess and baked until bubbly- that’s some warming up we could all use.

Yorkies.

Yorkshire pudding’s puffy, golden goodness undoubtedly takes a roast to another level.
If you add in roast potatoes, all the veg, 3 different meats, the possibility of seconds and lots and lots of gravy this roast becomes an event (or even two!!)

And that’s exactly what we are planning…

The Recreation Carvery returns: Open for business for two Sundays: Sunday July 19th and Sunday July 26th.
Two seatings available on each Sunday: 12pm and 3pm.

More information in the link in our bio

We’re gonna need a bigger (Gravy) boat.
