Mataranka Homestead is located right next to Elsey National Park, between two beautiful rivers – the Waterhouse River and the Little Roper River – both well known for barramundi fishing and a wide variety of freshwater fish. Freshwater crocodiles can often be seen basking on the banks of the Waterhouse River, offering visitors a true Northern Territory wildlife experience. The Homestead is also home to Maddie and other orphan wallabies, lovingly hand-raised here, making Mataranka Homestead a unique place to connect with local animals and nature. The iconic Australian movie “We of the Never Never” was filmed here, and the replica of the original homestead remains one of the main attractions for visitors interested in Australian history and culture. Mataranka Homestead is open all year round, offering outback accommodation, a bistro and bar, and during the high season (Easter to late September), guests can enjoy live music and entertainment six nights a week. We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, and our large reception area stocks essential supplies, souvenirs and fishing gear.
