Left Melbourne and its wild litters early this morning. With happy and healthy Athena - our beautiful lever espresso machine - we drove 500km to home interrupted by a couple of grandpa naps. The litters back in our sleepy village are much tamer 🫶

A dark cloudy day in Melbourne and in my brain. Inspiring rays broke through heavy clouds though, when I visited 3 diverse friends that Coffee had brought into my life. Thanks at Lennox, ._.y at RMIT, and at Towa. gifts us with tea driven sweets, open sandwiches, and signature drinks - all thoughtfully designed and lovingly crafted to deliver ethereal nuances and harmonic integration. Towa is at the corner of Little Bourke & Queen in CBD Melbourne, and open Thu-Sun 10am-3pm 🫶

A chaff removal experiment. A few boulders get caught out at this mesh size. Smaller chaff fragments pass through. All in all, this sieve works well enough? 700 micron vortex separation works as usual. This extra chaff catcher mesh doesn’t add time significantly at all.
ドリップ用にダイソー茶漉しでチャフを(一部ですが)除去してみました。いいかも？

Bench 580 & Europa Cake Shop + Victoria Pride Centre
Bench 580 is one of the pinnacles of contemporary Melbourne best practice coffee. This morning Morgan, Bench Group Head Barista, was visiting the store for QC, armed with filtered syringes and separate TDS meters for brew water and coffee etc. Both the milky and the batch were on point as always. The biscuit was modern and luscious. Europa Cake Shop is a venue of nostalgia - a time machine place. Neither their cappuccino or black forest cake would not work, if taken out of this context rich shop/area. Both were perfect though for the nostalgic and calmingly melancholic ambiance. A half hour stroll separates these tow venues in distance; three decades stand between their styles. Victoria Pride Centre is located halfway. Its architecture is beautiful. It provides ample workspace with power outlets. There’s a social enterprise cafe in the foyer, as well.
