Begun in 1850, The Royal Oak Hotel has been continually licensed since that time. The Royal Oak Hotel is a 'home away from home' and is one of those rare modern pubs that eschews gaming machines and pay-tv, preferring instead the grand art of conversation and conviviality. The Royal Oak Hotel is a generational place; stories and legends have been made, and continue to be made, within its interior. "The Oak", as it is affectionately known, is the reference point for many of Launceston's citizens, past and present.

Tasmanian-born, Perth-based Lasca Dry makes dreamy alt-pop-rock where hazy psychedelia, heavy guitars and raw emotion collide. Think Lana Del Rey meets Weyes Blood with a dose of Wolf Alice. Delicate one moment, gritty and guitar-heavy the next.

One of Australia's finest slide guitarists, Richard Steele has shared stages with blues greats including Charlie Musselwhite and John Hammond Jr. Expect masterful guitar work drawing on old-school blues, jazz, western swing and country.

SPICYMUSIC takes over the Oak Shed next Saturday, headlined by Double Pulse, the collaboration between Naarm DJs Laura King and Sammy La Marca.

Between them, Laura and Sammy have decades of DJ experience and have played major festivals including Strawberry Fields and Esoteric. As Double Pulse, they bring together hard bounce, high-speed psychedelia and stripped-back minimal trance, drawing on their roots in bush doof and rave culture.

The full line-up has been put together to build across the night, starting with stripped-back fast house before moving through hypnotic, groovy techno and into faster territory.

SUN'S OUT, JUGS OUT! Get a little strawberry daiquiri around your lips and whet your whistle on our rooftop.

$50 a jug, serving four. Gather your favourite drinking companions, head upstairs and make an afternoon of it.

Our take on this fruity favourite starts with New Norfolk Distillery's Drone Riot Silver Spirit, a Jamaican rum-inspired Tasmanian tipple, shaken up with strawberry liqueur, strawberry coulis, lime juice and a splash of simple syrup.

We have a local Treasure in the Front Bar this Friday.

Sorry Carl, the pun is simply too convenient.

You might know Carl Treasure wielding a guitar with the mighty Bad Dad Orchestra. You might know him from Launceston shoegazers LOUDERSTAR. Or you might simply know him because he’s been part of the fabric of the local music scene for years.

Friday night we get Carl stripped back, guitar in hand, digging into soulful acoustic music, blues, folk, classic rock and favourites.

🦪 BOOMER BAY BEAUTIES & BUBBLES

There’s a reason we keep coming back to Boomer Bay oysters.

Grown near Dunalley in Tasmania’s south-east, these beauties spend around 18 to 24 months developing in clean, ocean-fed waters. The result is a beautifully silky oyster with gentle salinity, sweetness and umami, with delicate notes of melon, seaweed and fresh cucumber.

Freshly shucked with lemon, mignonette or Bloody Mary dressing, they’re rather glorious with a glass of Tasmanian sparkling. Or, while we’re here, make it a bottle.

A little quiet decadence from our fair isle. 🥂
