Today is International Day of Older Persons, a day to recognise the vital role older Australians play in our society and to reflect on how we can better support their ongoing participation, wellbeing, and connection.
At HESTA, we’re proud to celebrate the individuals and teams working to create environments where older people are empowered to stay active, engaged, and valued. Our recent HESTA Excellence Awards in the Aged Care category shine a light on some of these remarkable efforts.
Emma Payne, founder of HappiHive and recipient of the Individual Leadership award in aged care, leads a team dedicated to enriching the lives of people living with dementia. By developing programs like “Moves for All” and the dementia-friendly Café on Acacia. Emma’s efforts continue to bring joy, dignity, and connection to dementia care worldwide.
The ACH Group Social and Health Teams, winners of the Team Excellence award, have shown how supporting active participation can make a difference. Through partnership with Tourism SA’s ‘Tour Down Under’ to support residents to compete in a Cycle Challenge. Nine residential aged care homes participated, engaging a total of 210 residents in a meaningful and enjoyable health-focused activity.
These initiatives not only improve wellbeing but also help foster environments where older Australians can remain involved and engaged.
On this International Day of Older Persons, we thank all those working in aged care for enabling older Australians to continue sharing their skills, stories, and strengths with us all.
