Swipe to see the photo that upset us yesterday - someone ordering takeaway but not intending to take away. More cups into landfill. More coffees not at their best. Let’s try to challenge the societal marketing trend that is disposable containers - they really are a fashion / marketing statement in an industry that has convinced us that eating and drinking out of literal trash is better than the alternative. Choose reusable every time you can, slow down and enjoy your coffee ☕️
It makes us sad when we see our feeds (and lives) filled with what our society has recently deemed “coffee culture” - disposable, take away style coffee and food containers. Especially when there is an alternative, and don’t even get us started on those clear plastic ones!
How have we got to the point that we accept that drinking out of a paper cup lined and lidded with “plastic” is anywhere near as good as ceramic or pottery? How can we sit down and enjoy a coffee but choose to have it in a disposable vessel? Do most people not have conscious thought for the quality loss and thermodynamics of the coffee, let alone the environmental footprint it creates? (Yes, some may be fully compostable but even this is still wasteful and you’d be surprised to know that most are not compostable or composted correctly so end up in landfill anyway).
We serve take away coffee at kgs, because sometimes it’s a last resort when we’re on the move - a last resort but at times a necessity. However, we believe that sitting for coffee should be a preference and an experience to be savoured.
So we encourage you to sit and enjoy your coffee unless you really need to get going, and we do not serve food or drinks in take away / disposable containers unless you have to take it away.
If you’re looking to sit somewhere and eat or drink out of a disposable container, we aren’t the place for you - please show respect when this is explained to you and if you really don’t like it, find somewhere that aligns with your values. We spend lots of time, money and energy doing our best to limit our footprint and hope that our customers share our values 🌍
