Good Afternoon Beautiful Friends and Family of Surface Cafe.
I have an exciting project that I have been working on and Now it is time to release to the world my new business built from purpose.
After many years working as a chef, teacher and facilitator of inclusive cooking programs, I’ve finally taken the step to launch something that has been living in my heart for a long time.
CWAC – Cooking With A Conscience.
This project is about much more than cooking. It’s about building independence, confidence, and connection through real food and practical life skills.
Based here in Townsville, CWAC will offer:
• NDIS capacity building cooking programs
• 1:1 cooking sessions
• small group cooking classes
• inclusive cooking for all abilities
It’s exciting (and a little nerve-wracking!) to put this out into the world, but I’m grateful for the support of friends and family who have encouraged me along the way.

Two years ago we had to close the doors on my dream
Due to Covid And greed.
l mlss the beautiful community that we built everyday.
All the wonderful customers and brilliant staff.
l am now ln a wonderful place teaching at Sprout Cooking school
Shan and l send love and peace to all.

Hello! Hope you’ve all had a truly wonderful Christmas time.

Back at the end of June I was deeply saddened that I had to close Surface Cafe, after operating it for nearly 7 years. In this time I built many relationships, some long standing and memorable. It was a pleasure meeting each and every one of you.

It was incredibly moving to receive your notes, cards, gifts, texts, messages, phone calls, hugs of sadness and and support for having to close our beloved Cafe.
The hardest aspect was the impact on our community. We so grateful for your love.

So many of you kindly asked if there was anything you could do to help.
I have decided after several customers suggested it to me to start a GoFundMe page. Without going into too much detail, most of you are aware from our posting, that through no fault of my own I’ve been left with considerable debt. This now impacts all aspects of my life. The loss to myself and my family has been really tough.
I realise that the Cafe was closed back in June and I am only able now to ask for help after dealing with six months of illness, mental fatigue and anxiety.

Any funds raised would firstly go towards paying and reducing debt that I have incurred. Once I have paid off my debts I will have the opportunity to open another business and to maybe own my own house again and to contribute to some savings for my future.

I understand the past three years has been tough for all businesses so in response to you and my community offering to help, I’ve decided to accept.

Thank you for all your messages telling us we made a difference.

What a beautiful community we have and I miss you all dearly.
It has been emotional reading all the wonderful well wishes on this auspicious occasion.
Keep a look out for an event coming soon where we can all catch up and share some stories and wonderful memories.
A special shout out to Shàn I am so grateful to have her In my life providing counsel and support through these difficult times. She has been absolutely amasing.
Just remember age is not relevant.
We are not getting older we are just getting better….
