IT'S OFFICIAL – WE'RE FINALLY UNDERWAY! 🍻🏗️

After a long journey through approvals, we're thrilled to announce that we've officially received the green light to commence work on the Harp & Fiddle!

Many of you have been asking when work would begin, and we completely understand the anticipation. Restoring and reimagining a heritage building is never a quick process. Every detail requires careful planning, specialist reports, and approvals to ensure this important piece of Katoomba's history is protected for future generations.

While it may have looked quiet from the outside, plenty has been happening behind the scenes. In 2025 we completed the restoration of the building's beautiful heritage façade, including recreating the stunning stained-glass details that had been lost over time. That was just the beginning.

Now, with approvals finally in place, we can't wait to get inside and start bringing this incredible building back to life.

For well over a century this building has been part of the Carrington story. It began as a public bar and bottle shop in the early 1900s before expanding to include the historic snooker hall upstairs—today's Baroque Room. Many locals will also remember it as the much-loved Harp & Fiddle, where countless memories were made.

Our goal is to honour that history while creating an exciting new chapter for the building.

Thank you to everyone for your patience, encouragement and enthusiasm. We genuinely can't wait to share this journey with you.

Behind the scenes at The Carrington Hotel 🏛️🔨

Owning and caring for a heritage building like The Carrington Hotel means there's always something happening behind the scenes to preserve its history for future generations.

This week our maintenance team has been high above Katoomba, working on the rooftop to replace gutters and eaves, repair heritage render to prevent water ingress, and replace rotted timber windows around the lift motor room.
While the work is hard, the office view certainly isn't! From the rooftop, the team has enjoyed breathtaking panoramic views across Katoomba and out over the spectacular Jamison Valley – especially with the beautiful winter weather we've been lucky enough to have this week. ☀️⛰️

One fascinating piece of Carrington history is hidden away in this part of the building. The room being restored houses the motor for our historic lift, which was first installed in 1927. Although it has been upgraded over the decades to meet modern standards, the lift itself remains the original car and motor that has been serving guests for almost a century.

These ongoing restoration projects may not always be seen by our guests, but they are an essential part of the preservation work that ensures The Carrington Hotel can be enjoyed by many more generations to come.

❄️ A Snowy Step Back in Time... 1956 ❄️

We love sharing little pieces of The Carrington Hotel's history, and these beautiful black and white photographs, kindly shared by Phil Hammon of the Blue Mountains Historical Society , capture one of Katoomba's magical snow days in 1956.

From snow-covered gardens to vintage cars making their way up the driveway, it's a wonderful glimpse into winters gone by. While it's certainly been cold in the Blue Mountains lately, we're still waiting (and hoping!) for that magical blanket of snow to arrive.

Winter isn't over just yet... 🤞❄️
