Still letting this one sink in.

Bistro Français has been awarded a Bib Gourmand in the inaugural MICHELIN Guide South Australia. To be named in the very first guide this state has ever had, alongside places like Parwana, Africola and the other Bib Gourmands, restaurants I have admired and eaten at for years, is something I never let myself picture when we started.

I am not originally from Adelaide. I came here, fell for this city, and opened a little French bistro on King William Road because I was passionate about the food, the room and the whole idea of it, not because it was ever the smart money move. You do a thing like this with your heart first and hope the rest follows. Tonight tells me the heart was in the right place.

This belongs to the team who show up and cook and care every single service, and to every one of you who has walked through our door, ordered the soufflé, stayed for one more glass, and told a friend. Thank you, truly.

Look for the red. Tucked on King William Road, our little corner of France is easy to spot once you know the sign. Deep red frontage, the goose above the door, and a window full of w**e and greenery hinting at what is inside. Since 2022 this has been our home, and there is always a table, a glass, and a warm welcome waiting behind that glass. Next time you walk past, do not just walk past.

Escargots, and yes, you should. Six snails baked in a garlic and parsley butter so green and fragrant you will be mopping the dish with bread before you know it. The little tongs and fork are all part of the ritual. If you have never tried them, this is the one to be brave with, because it is far less about the snail and far more about that garlicky, herby butter. A proper French classic, done the proper way.

Go on, be brave. You can thank the butter later.
