Dovetail Social, Highgate Hill Charming and super friendly coeliac friendly suburban cafe and bakery in Highgate Hill + GF High Tea

Dovetail on Overend, our first cafe, launched in 2014, and has become well known in our community for our service, quality, and providing a safe space for coeliacs to dine. Our second location Dovetail Social, Highgate Hill, launched in January 2021. Both locations feature our flavour-focussed food menu, amazing black or milk-based coffees, our famous fresh chai, and our freshly baked gluten free donuts and desserts (baked onsite daily)

Our space:

• Tranquil suburban setting, ample stress-free parking
• Breezy alfresco dining
• Bookings and walk-in diners are welcome

Our service philosophy:
• Our team is super friendly and attentive
• We're efficient, but never at the expense of quality

Food Menu:
• Customer favourites include our Baked Eggs #7 - featuring our famous house Chilli Con Carne, Breakkie Pizza (covered with Maple Bacon), our Adobo Bowl (based on Filipino's super tasty national dish), vegan-friendly Breakkie Rice Buddha Bowl, and of course our legendary Reuben, the classic!
• Every dish on our menu can be prepared Gluten Free in a dedicated kitchen space - so when we say it's Gluten Free, we really mean it is 100% Coeliac-Friendly.
• We never charge extra for Gluten Free, EVER!! Dessert Menu:
• Our famous donuts are baked fresh daily
• We only bake gluten free desserts in our oven (zero risk of gluten cross-contamination), but if we didn't tell you they are gluten free you would never guess it
• Customer favourites include our Yamington (Purple Yam Lamington), Lemon Blueberry or Passionfruit Raspberry donuts; chocolate marshmallow mini cakes; and our amazing Christmas Ginger Bread Houses
• We also bake a much larger range of bespoke cakes and desserts (eg our gluten free Sticky Pecan Scrolls), and Gluten Free High Tea in our new space Dovetail Social, Highgate Hill - these can all be ordered easily from our website dovetailsocial.com.au

We’ve had so many customers asking if we could make our much-loved Chicken Waffles dairy-free — so we’ve been working on it.

Meet our new Ube Waffle. 💜🇵🇭

That beautiful purple comes from ube (purple yam), bringing a little Filipino twist to one of our most popular Dovetail brunch dishes.

Served with our house-made crumbed chicken, crispy bacon and poached egg- and now available with a gluten-free, dairy-free ube waffle option.

We love being able to create more options for more of you to enjoy one of our Dovetail favourites. 💜

Ube & Mango French Toast 💜🥭

One of those dishes that feels very Dovetail- Chef Rejoice’s take on the classic French toast, and one of our most popular brunch dishes.

Ube has been part of what we do for many years, long before purple food started appearing everywhere. We’ve been baking with it, creating desserts with it and bringing it into our menu from the early days of Dovetail.

Here, it’s paired with calamansi curd, fresh mango, toasted rice flakes and crushed meringue- a little nod to Rejoice’s Filipino heritage. 🇵🇭

Bright and tropical, but loved all year round. It’s become a real Dovetail staple.

One of our Filipino-inspired favourites at Dovetail.

Chicken marinated in our adobo sauce, crumbed and fried until crispy- big on flavour and made for a proper brunch or lunch.

What an incredible honour. 💜

I’m deeply grateful to have been recognised as a Highly Commended Recipient for Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2026 Multicultural Queensland Awards.

Standing on that stage and receiving this recognition from Minister Fiona Simpson MP, Minister for Multiculturalism, was a very special moment- but looking through these photos afterwards reminds me that this journey has never been mine alone.

Through Dovetail Social, I’ve had the opportunity to share my Filipino heritage through food, advocate for inclusive and coeliac-friendly dining, build a small business in Queensland, and create employment and opportunities for young people from multicultural backgrounds.

Entrepreneurship for me has also always gone hand in hand with community service. As President of the Queensland Filipino Excellence Awards Inc.- QFEA, I’m privileged to work alongside people who share a commitment to recognising achievement, strengthening our community and creating opportunities for future generations.

My sincere thanks to the Queensland Government, Premier David Crisafulli MP and Multicultural Affairs Queensland for recognising the contributions being made across our multicultural communities.

And to my family, our Dovetail team, our customers, my QFEA colleagues, friends, the Filipino community and the wider community- thank you for your support, encouragement and for being part of this journey. I’m very grateful to share this recognition with all of you.

I’m especially proud to see the work and story behind Dovetail Social now included on the Queensland Government’s official list of 2026 Multicultural Queensland Awards recipients.
