Some of you have probably already met our newest addition, Alice, but for anyone who hasn’t — here’s a little introduction 🤍🐴. Alice is a beautiful Gypsy Cob × riding pony that we purchased from auction on 5/8/2026. When she came to us, she had very minimal handling and was still learning the basics — she didn’t understand pressure, leading or lunging and had never had a saddle on. Fast forward 6 weeks and this little mare has absolutely blown us away. ✨Before we ever thought about getting on, Alice spent weeks simply learning how to understand and trust us from the ground. We worked through leading, pressure and release, backing up, lunging, desensitising her to different noises and movements, and introducing her to anything that could potentially feel new or scary. Our focus was never to rush her, but to build a really solid foundation and give her the confidence to understand what we were asking. And it’s made such a difference under saddle. Everything we’ve spent so much time teaching her on the ground has transferred across, making her fourth ride feel so much more natural and allowing her to take everything in her stride. This is exactly why we put such a huge emphasis on groundwork and a good foundation before getting on any green-broke or breaker horses. 🤍Alice’s quiet nature, willingness to learn and beautiful little soul are exactly what we were looking for, and she has already proven to be everything we could have asked for and more.As she is still only a baby, there is absolutely no rush with her. She’ll have plenty of weeks off throughout her training to allow her body to grow, develop and mature properly. For now, she’ll continue to stay in training with us at Kyllarie, riding every so often with our trainer Ollie and some of our other trainers to give her different experiences and plenty of exposure.
Alice won’t be coming into any lessons until around mid-to-late next year. Until then, she gets to simply be a baby while we continue building her confidence and education at her own pace. 🥰
