It’s hard to know how to write this about someone who was such a huge part of our beginning.
Thom was technically our first ever customer. And we mean technically, because he parked out the front at about 5:30am on our very first morning in January 2017 and waited for half an hour just to make absolutely certain nobody could beat him to it.
A few months later, he took a similarly subtle approach to getting a job with us. He turned up on our doorstep at home one Sunday afternoon and asked for one.
We figured anyone that keen was worth a shot.
And he was.
Thom went on to become one of our very first team members and our longest serving, spending almost four years with us. He worked so fu***ng hard. He thrived when we were getting absolutely flogged, loved being part of a team, loved the banter, and perhaps loved the knock off at the end of it all even more.
He brought so much life into this little place.
Customers loved him. His team loved him. And somewhere along the way, he stopped just being someone who worked for us and became our good friend.
The news that Thom has passed has completely rocked us.
He was part of this place before it really even was a place. He believed in it enough to sit outside waiting for the doors to open, and then somehow talked his way behind the counter a few months later.
We feel incredibly lucky that he did.
Our hearts are with Thom’s family and everyone who loved him. We are sending them every ounce of love and support we possibly can as they navigate something no family should ever have to.
Godspeed Thom, rest easy mate.
