A big CONGRATULATIONS to the winners of the Amazing Neighbours nominations, Dave Mainwaring and Jill Hawks!
Nominated by anonymous community members, our winners were identified for their giving nature and ability to make their community neighbours feel welcome and comforted in times of strife. These are some of the kind words said about them:
"When our community was isolated, with the Daintree Ferry not operating for over a month now, Dave the owner of the Daintree Ice Cream Company stepped up to bring our community together. With a simple act of kindness in giving away free coffee, ice cream, and a place to gather. He turned a difficult time into one of connection and care. A true community hero."
"Jilly Hawks has lived for many years in Cooya and over those years she's created the village in her area by being there for others each and every day. Whether it's introducing new neighbours sitting with the elderly or frail or out walking the beach smiling and being welcoming and friendly to newcomers. Jill is a powerhouse of thoughtful kindness. If someone needs help she rallies the troops and gets it sorted. She's created wonderful community Christmas events for her street over the years and just reaches out whenever help is needed. She is the glue that keeps our little town together."
These two amazing neighbours go above and beyond and really embody what it means to be community oriented and part of a community. The pair each won a Cyclone Starter Kit for their kindness.
