One of my favourite medicinal plants is back in stock 💛

Elderberry has been traditionally used for generations and is a wonderful addition to the home garden.

🌿 A reminder to always read beyond the active ingredients 🌿

One of the things I often discussed when working in a health food store was that just because a product is sold in a health food store doesn't automatically mean it contains only the ingredients you expect.

Many people carefully check the active ingredients in their supplements but never look at the excipients, fillers, binders, coatings and other inactive ingredients.

Some products contain very few additional ingredients. Others can contain surprisingly long lists.

Here's a simple exercise:

1️⃣ Choose a supplement you take regularly.

2️⃣ Search the product name followed by "TGA".

3️⃣ Open the TGA listing and download the Product Information or ingredient details.

4️⃣ Take a look at the full ingredient list, not just the active ingredients.

You may be surprised by what you find.

An eye-opening example is to compare products such as Elevit or Metamucil and look at the complete list of excipients and inactive ingredients.

I'm not suggesting that every excipient is harmful or that every product containing them should be avoided. Rather, I believe consumers should know exactly what they are putting into their bodies and be able to make informed decisions.

The more you learn to read labels, the more empowered you become 🌿💛

🥓🍁 Hickory Maple Bacon Beans 🍁🥓

This is the kind of meal that makes everyone come running to the kitchen!

Made with my home-canned cannellini beans, homemade chipotle in adobo sauce, homemade beef bone broth, bacon, onions, capsicum, tomato paste and a touch of maple syrup.

Rich, smoky, slightly sweet and packed with flavour. These beans are always a winner with my guys.

One of the things I love most about preserving is being able to pull jars from the pantry and turn them into nourishing meals like this. Real ingredients, real food, and no mystery additives.

Add some toasted sourdough and dinner is sorted. ❤️

Would your family enjoy a bowl of these?

🌿✨ Herbal Infused Oils in the Making ✨🌿

One of my favourite parts of working with herbs is transforming them into something beautiful and useful.

This week I’ve been infusing:
💜 Lavender
🧡 Calendula
🌱 Plantain
🌿 Comfrey
🤍 Chamomile
🌾 Yarrow

Slowly infused in oil to capture the unique properties of each herb, these gorgeous golden oils will become the foundation for future batches of my handcrafted tallow balms.

There’s something special about taking simple ingredients from nature and turning them into products that nourish and care for the skin.

Which herb would you be most excited to see in a tallow balm?

🌊✨ Homemade Seaweed Salt ✨🌊

Sometimes the simplest things can add so much flavour.

I’ve been experimenting in the kitchen and made a batch of Seaweed Salt using:
🧂 Celtic Sea Salt
🌿 Kelp Granules
🌿 Dulse Flakes

This mineral-rich seasoning has a beautiful savoury, umami flavour that works wonderfully on eggs, roasted vegetables, soups, fish, avocado and more.

A little sprinkle goes a long way in adding depth of flavour to everyday meals.

Have you ever tried seaweed salt before? What would you sprinkle it on first?

🌿 From Garden Vine to Natural Scrubby 🌿

Would you believe these natural luffa scrubbies started as a vine growing in my backyard?

I grow my own luffa, let them mature on the vine, then peel, clean and dry them. The result is a completely natural, compostable scrubby that can be used in the kitchen, bath, or even embedded into handmade soap bars for gentle exfoliation.

✨ Homegrown
✨ Plastic-free
✨ Compostable
✨ Great for dishes, cleaning and exfoliating skin

There’s something incredibly satisfying about growing your own everyday household items!

Have you ever seen a luffa before it became a scrubby?
