Wow, you guys. I have to show you something 😍

It came up in my Facebook memories from this day, 3 October 2015, 11 years ago. It was Jacob’s last day at Lenard’s after nearly 9 years. Ironic that it was only yesterday that he had his first day off since! 🫠

We hadn’t opened the shop yet, there was a LOT of cleaning and prep to be done before we could. So he finished up first and then I came after. I was 3 months pregnant.

Here is what I said in the original post:

“After 8 and a half years of loving Lenard’s Lismore like it was his own shop, it was Jacob's last day today before we set out on our own adventure!
I think I was more emotional than he was! And I haven't even had my last day yet!
The shop will be SO different without you there Jacob.
You are the fun. You are the laughter. You are the art in the window.
It's all you.
You are ARE the shop.
And even though I get to go where you go, I can't imagine what it will be like for everyone there once you're not there.
You are going to do such amazing things and I am so excited and SO proud that I get to be there doing it all with you!
You are a star 💫
I love you ❤️”

Look at us! We were pregnant with our first baby and paying off a mortgage. We went all in taking a real gamble on our future. We’re tired, heavier and we’ve aged from all the stress HAHA but we are still here. And I am SO proud of us 💘

Jacob’s FIRST DAY OFF IN ELEVEN YEARS 🥹

Yeah sometimes, rarely, we’ll have a Friday here or there to go and see our friends in Melbourne or something, but to do that he’s always had to work the previous Saturday to get ahead for it.

We used to have the week between Christmas and New Years and in the last couple of years we’ve closed for two weeks instead of the one, but that’s always spent catching up on stuff around the house and seeing family. I had our first son Rome late on a Sunday night and Jacob was back at work first thing Monday morning. Today is his first REAL day off in the whole time we’ve had the shop.

But it’s okay! We’ve got it under control! 🙌🏻
And the ONLY reason he was able to have the day off is because Flynn is going so well boning the chickens! And Matilda got out of bed at 5am to put the window in for us 💜🫶🏻

Jacob took the kids to Dreamworld today and I don’t know who was more excited about it, him or the kids.. 🥹

Today is a good day 🥰

Little cooking episode for anyone who’s bored! Last night I went to Chicks at the Flicks with girlfriends and we normally do the dinner package! It’s fabulous! But this time we missed out on those tickets and we didn’t have time to eat together beforehand ☹️

CHICKEN SPRING ROLLS 🥭🌶️

The weather has been turning it on and I reckon it’s a perfect time to bring these babies back in for a run! Back by popular demand, I know I have a lot of people who have been asking who agree.. it is TIME! 🙌🏻

These are a spring roll pastry, and then inside they have diced chicken breast, mango, capsicum, carrot, spring onions, and mango & sweet chilli sauce of course.. 😎 They are YUM.

Just bake for 30-35mins at 180 degrees, turn them for the last 5 minutes.

We don’t have these all the time! So if you want them, make sure you buy them! Yes they can be frozen if you didn’t want to use them yet or if you wanted to stock up while we have them 🧡

Wishing a BIG BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our best mate, Ronnie!! Who is 62 today!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Ronnie has been hanging out with us from the start, nearly 11 years ago now! He just decided one day that he liked us, and so he’s been sitting out the front of our shop pretty much every day since! He starts on the blue chair and then later when it’s not so busy he migrates to the bag rail and we just hang out until he’s ready to go home! We chat and he sings, we giggle, we talk about b**r and monster trucks! His favourite thing in the WORLD is monster trucks!! And then when it’s time for him to go he gives us each a high ten and he heads home. He is one of my favourite people on the planet. He makes me SO HAPPY just seeing him. Well today we gave him his very own remote control MONSTER TRUCK!!!! And if I thought he couldn’t get any more excited when he sees us…… well you should have seen him with his monster truck 🥹 We had to test it out of course! And she is a beauty! 😍 I called the shop later after I left and asked Ronnie how his day was and he said “it was good, Dani” (he calls me Dani) and I asked what his favourite part of his day was!? And he said his MONSTER TRUCK 🌟 YEAAAH it was 😎 Happy Birthday, Ronnie!! We love you!! 💫

Sometimes people finish up at the Chicken Shop and we never see them again. And that’s sad, but it’s rare. And sometimes they’re still local and they pop in, buy some chicken, we catch up and we know where they’re at in their lives and that’s nice. And then sometimes, when we’re really, really lucky! People leave the Chicken Shop and still want to include us in their next chapters. Like on the weekend 🤍

Tamika came to work with us after my parents’ shop closed down. She was a MASSIVE help when I had Elijah 8 years ago and even after she moved on she still came in to help us out when we needed it. Surely some of our OG customers remember her! Well she is the manager of Zambrero’s now! And looks after all the shops in the area. She hasn’t worked for us for years.

But now she’s having her own baby boy! And we got to be there with her at her shower on the weekend. How special is that 🥹 Because the Chicken Shop isn’t just a job to us. It’s our family, it’s our friends. And it’s just really really nice when they see it that way too. We love you, Tamika. We could not be more thrilled for you and Will and this next part of your lives, the best part! 🙊😍 You will both be wonderful parents! Little sweetie has no idea what a lucky little boy he is. Thank you so much for letting us celebrate with you! We can’t wait to meet him 🙏🏻🩵
