After a few days sampling the delights of Rutherglen and more than one visit to Parker Pies we have moved on to the family campground (aka “my brother’s place”) just outside Ballarat.
This post is dedicated to my patchwork and quilting friends, those of you who have been to Gail’s Patchwork Emporium and for those yet to discover this magical place. Seriously ladies send your husbands to Bunnings and strap in for a fabric frenzy. I cannot recommend this beautiful space highly enough, not only is it spectacular but the staff are genuinely interested in helping you. Bonus points for such a lovely garden space.
We have another day here before we hop on the Spirit of Tasmania for the crossing to Tasmania. Only for three weeks this visit but we are really looking forward to catching up with more family especially our son Matthew before he heads off to trek Everest Basecamp in May.
I hope you have all had a lovely Easter Break and are ready for the week ahead #

After three solid days travel we have reached Rutherglen and are now camped up on the banks of one of our favourite spots, Policeman’s Paddock.
A few noteworthy stops along the way include Carcoar and Gundegai.
Carcoar is a delightful little village in the central west of New South Wales. Shopping highlights include The Rustic Flamingo - fabulous vintage paraphernalia, Tomolly Homewares and Gifts - unfortunately closed and I would dearly have loved to poke around in there. Last but certainly not the least was lunch at The Village Grocer, recently purchased and refurbished by Neil and Edwina it is an absolute delight. We both chose the salad for lunch, featuring fresh figs, roast pumpkin, pomegranate, rocket and grilled chicken- just yum! The coffee is also really good. Neil and his beautiful team greeted us like old friends and we were made to feel very welcome.
Next stop Jugiong! Also in this region of NSW Jugiong features a great free camp, perfect for travellers heading down the Hume Highway. It’s also home to the Long Track Pantry, to my dismay Tuesday is the only day it closes. Oh well there’s always next time.
A quick stop in Gundegai to visit the doggy on the Tuckerbox, have an icecream, grab some fresh farm apples and a visit to Train Stop Antiques. Wow is all I can say, what an amazing collection of vintage and antique goodies.
Tonight we are camped up in a branch of the Murray River near my spiritual home of Rutherglen. For those of you who know me well you know that Rutherglen is just one of my spiritual homes, also included in the list is the Coonawarra region, the Barossa, the Grampians, areas of Tasmania etc, etc. Just give me a river and a bottle of wine and I’m a happy chook.

We left Chinchilla this morning after a nearly six months stay. The emotions were definitely mixed, the urge to keep travelling along with saying goodbye to new found friends and a lovely little community that we have enjoyed being a part of.
Tonight we are across the border into NSW. We’re on a beeline for Ballarat for a few weeks and then on the big dinghy across the creek to Tasmania for another few weeks. As expected fuel is ridiculous, 57 litres today cost $190. Just crazy! We are used to a water being our limiting factor but this round it will be fuel.
Dinner tonight is pizza at the Royal Hotel and it looks pretty bloody good after a long days travel.
Cheers everyone, it’s good to be back. 💕

Get ready folks. We are packed up and ready to hit the road. More Postcards coming your way soon.

A huge shoutout to the teams from Chinchilla branches of SES Qld, Queensland Ambulance, Qld Police and Qld Fire and Rescue. Sunday evening was something I don’t really want to experience again in a hurry. Flash flooding through our campsite meant a midnight call to 000 for help evacuating ourselves and other campers caught unexpectedly. To top it off we had a large tree fall over the big rig requiring some late night chainsaw action, luckily no major damage.
We are incredibly grateful for the assistance from the emergency services teams who go above and beyond in times of need.
To everyone else impacted by the current widespread flooding stay safe friends!

Proud Mumma moment here! That’s my boy Matthew sitting in the Captains chair on the luxury cruise ship “Scenic Eclipse 2”. No, he’s not the Captain 😂 Matt is working at Flight Centre in Hobart and yesterday they had a famil aboard the ship. We are so proud of this guy. If you’re in Hobart pop in and say Hello, you can give him a big hug from me.
EDIT: I should have explained better. A famil is an inside look for tourism industry staff so they can go away and tell their clients about a product.

Christmas is on the way faster than Santa can fill his toy sack. To mark the event I have five calendars to give away. Featuring some of my favourite images that I’m excited to share with you. If you would like one just like this post, make a comment so I know what you’re thinking and over next weekend I’ll draw out five names.
Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!

We are heading off for the weekend to attend a birthday celebration in Monto. Our dear friend Linsey is about to hit a certain milestone and we are looking forward to helping him celebrate.
On the road from Chinchilla to Wandoan is this wee abandoned homestead which despite having seen better days still exudes charm and character in bucket loads.
I do love a bit of rust and weathered timber and this fulfilled both of those loves. The front gate alone filled me with joy, just take a look at that beautiful handle. Someone took care to forge that piece of simple beauty.
We are still enjoying our extended stay in Chinchilla and will be back here next week after our little weekend getaway.
Have a great weekend everyone!

We are parked up in Chinchilla at the moment near the waterway that is Charley’s Creek. Full of birdlife, each day we get Apostle Birds, Ibis, Noisy Miners, Cormorants, Spoonbills, a pair of Magpies, ducks and even some elusive King Parrots. The weather is lovely, warm during the day and building into an evening storm most days. The grounds are alive with rain lillies and the prickly pear is in full bloom around the region.
Each weekend we go for a drive to explore the region and I’ll share more of that later with you. There are lots of little towns to explore with the focus of their economies being agriculture and gas.
I can see a campfire burning in the distance and the peace and quiet is beautiful.
Cheers for the week ahead!
