๐โค๏ธ A huge thank you to some very special local legends
This happened not too far from Montes, and although it wasnโt at the resort, we wanted to share a little bit of what we witnessed and give a massive shout-out to the people who jumped in to help.
A whale had washed up on the shore, and a call for help was made by our previous caretaker, Larry. He was instructed to keep the whale wet by covering it with towels and continually pouring water over it while waiting for the rescue team to arrive.
I was able to help a little in the meantime, providing some shade and buckets of water, until the team arrived with a gazebo, watering cans and everything they needed to properly care for the whale.
And then these guys got to work. โค๏ธ
A special mention to Tim, our local legend, who has been doing this for more than 15 years. What an incredible amount of knowledge and experience he must have.
There was also a young bloke whose name I unfortunately didnโt get, but he played a really important part in the rescue, along with the crew of the boat that came to assist. Thank you to all of you for being there and doing what you do ๐
And Ben, who was up here from down south working alongside our local team. Ben was quite literally running the beach, coordinating communication with the boat that came to assist, looking a little like the David Hasselhoff of whale rescues ๐๐
These guys spent more than 8ยฝ hours working to keep the whale comfortable, hydrated and in the best possible condition before helping get it back out to sea.
That is an incredible commitment to our wildlife and our community โค๏ธ
So, to everyone involved, thank you. What you do matters.
If you know any of these legends, please give them a shout out and let them know how appreciated they are ๐
I think my thanks goes to our local Marine Rescue Whitsunday, formerly VMR Whitsunday ๐ And to Queensland parks and wild life Whitsunday.
