Another artist at the Belco Blues Festival (2&3 of October) will be Necko. Australian trio Necko draw on the sounds of 1970s stadium rock: atmosphere, catchy hooks and extended guitar solos. The three Sydney boys go from a whisper to a roar with Alek Necko’s delicate R&B-flavoured falsetto and vintage wail, Reno Torrisi’s explosive drumming and Alex Damon’s dextrous bass and keys tap-dance. Their eponymous debut EP launched the band into over two years of touring across Australia, including support slots for The Radiators and a finals appearance at Bluesfest Byron Bay’s Busking Competition. And now, the fanbase that’s been built as a result sees the group release the eagerly anticipated ‘You’ve Got What I Want’: the lead single from Necko II.

So yesterday (Sunday) at the MoshPit we took $458 over the bar.

This doesn't pay staff wages for the day never mind cost of sales to suppliers, rent, insurance, electricity etc*.

This is why you have seen six smaller live music venues announce their closure in the last few weeks, five of them in the Inner West. The maths just isn't mathing.

To the 30% of bands that come into the bar between their gigs at the MoshPit to support other bands and the venue, thank you. You are supporting your own scene.

To the other 70% that we only see when you're putting on a gig, where are you? If this makes you uncomfortable, good. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

If you want us to survive until November so we can put on YOUR gig then vote with your feet and your wallets.

If you want other venues to survive after we're gone so they can put on your gigs, then vote with your feet and your wallets and show some support.
