💳 A little change across Australia today… but not much changes here at MJ’s. 💙💚

From today, new card payment rules mean businesses can no longer add surcharges to most everyday card payments.

For us at MJ’s on Boyne, though, this is something we’ve believed in from the beginning.

In all our years of operating, we have never charged our customers a card surcharge.

Yes, businesses pay fees to process card transactions — and we always have. But we’ve always believed that those costs are part of doing business, rather than an extra charge to pass on at the counter.

We know how hard things are for families at the moment, and every dollar matters. When you look at a price on our menu, we want that to be the price you actually pay — whether you’re grabbing a quick coffee, feeding the family, or treating the kids to an ice cream.

So while the rules may have changed today, our approach hasn’t. I guess you could say MJ’s was a little ahead of the trend on this one. 😉

No surprise card fees. No little extra percentage at the checkout. Just straightforward pricing and looking after the people who support us.

It’s a small thing, but it’s something we’re proud to have stood by for years.

💙 WE JUST WANT TO SAY A HUGE THANK YOU!

Over the last few months we’ve been absolutely blown away by the beautiful reviews, recommendations and comments coming through for MJ’s on Boyne.

Reading things like “10/10,” “best chips I’ve ever had,” “one of the top places to eat in CQ,” “our favourite little fish and chip shop,” and hearing how much you’ve enjoyed our food, service and outdoor area honestly means more to us than you probably realise. 🐟🍔🍟

What really got us though was seeing so many people mention our staff and customer service — being greeted with a smile, having water brought out, being checked on at the table, extra sauces offered, and simply feeling welcomed and looked after. That is exactly the kind of place we want MJ’s to be.

We loved reading about the kids enjoying the fish, visitors from Melbourne making MJ’s a highlight of their trip, families bringing their dogs along, returning customers making us part of their Gladstone visits, and even people saying the drive out to Boyne is absolutely worth it. 🥹

And apparently our chips are developing quite the reputation! 😂🍟

Running a small local business takes a LOT of work behind the scenes, so when we read feedback like this it gives us such a boost and reminds us why we do it.
