Tucked away inside The Bassendean Hotel is Daphne’s Snug, one of the venue’s most charming corners, with a story to match.
Named after the daughter of the family who owned the hotel after founder Paddy Connolly, Daphne’s Snug pays tribute to the women who helped shape Australian pub culture. Back in the day, women weren't permitted to drink in public bars and were often confined to smaller "snug" rooms, sometimes even paying more for their drinks than the men. Daphne’s Snug is a nod to those women and the important role they played in keeping communities connected.
Today, it's the perfect spot to settle in with a glass of wine, catch up with friends, or simply soak up a little local history while enjoying one of Bassendean's most iconic buildings.
Nearly 100 years after opening its doors in 1930, the Bassendean Hotel remains at the heart of the community, and Daphne's Snug is one of its best-kept treasures.
